Why did I bother with the UK AD?

Hi!

Before today I was a great fan of buying from the AD. Wen't to my local AD (Leslie Davies) today to ask about a Sea Dweller Deep Sea.

Now, I was looking a little casual but I did have my WG DD on, and I had bought my WG Sub there only three months before.....

Left me standing for a good few minutes and I couldn't speak to the manager who helped me with my other purchase earlier in the year. Finally the assistant comes out and says "Its £5880 - what else do you want to know?"

Didn't get offered a seat, a drink, conversation, nothing. Discounts?? "Nope we never discount sports models and we've got 3 people on the waiting list for a Deep Sea already". It was a 20 second conversation

They let me walk straight out the door.

Hmmm, I wonder where I'll make my next purchase(s) from. Especially after the great experience I had buying a watch lately for my wife from DavidSW.

Service indeed!

That is the way it is in some retailers. Surely another reason for buying from a fellow site user.

Seriously, what do they expect? Are you supposed to pull up is a chauffeured Bentley and have on a fine Italian suit? If you walk in wearing at least a Rolex that should tell them you are a serious potential buyer.

I have never been treated rudely at an AD in Hawaii everyone dresses comfortably here so they can never tell if you***8217;re homeless or a billionaire!

It's their loss I guess but it made me feel pretty small being talked to like that.

Especially as I'm also looking at a YG Yachtmaster II Regatta at some point in the near future.

I'm tempted to see if I can get the SDDS at Heathrow T5 in the next couple of weeks. I might give them a call and see if they can get one in for me.

What makes me laugh is this local AD have also just recently employed a full time Rolex trained (so they said) technician to service watches. I had planned to use them. Guess I won't now

And they wonder why people go to Abu Dhabi, Singapore & Hong Kong. Crap service by someone who should not be an Authorised Distributor.

I'm always surprised Rolex doesn't spot check their AD's?

Sounds a lot like the only Hungarian AD. Too bad we don't have a choice here, since there's only one Rolex AD in this country. Maybe such ADs treat tourists better than locals?

You may want to consider calling in to see the AD manager and re-count your experience to him/her.

If, in the unlikely event, that the manager doesn't want to jump backwards to put matters right then re-count both experiences to the PR Director of the Fraser Hart group. You may wish to enlighten that person that you are amongst 40,000 other Rolex enthusiasts here and bad news travels fast.

I've actually had excellent service at David M Robinson in Canary Wharf. Purchased 1 Tag and 3 Rolexes there. Been offered seating, coffee, extended warranty and always great personal service, even a call back to my cell a week after purchase to see if I was happy with the watch. Also been invited to different events with them.

Sorry to hear your experience. I too had just bought my DJ (my first ever Rolex!) and I got mine from Ernest Jones in Poole (one of the two ADs in Dorset, the other being Charles Fox in Bournemouth). My experience was ok but I did expect more from them considered the amount I was going to spend. Perhaps it was because couple weeks before I went to the Rolex showroom at Old Bond Street and it was such a good experience that I was expecting more from other Rolex ADs. However the sale person you encountered was just simply rude and snobbish. I don't think it is too much to ask to have good, respectful service, and it does not matter whether you are spending £5 or £5000.

My local AD is privately owned and the difference between their service and the thickie thickie people you get UK Chain isnt comparable. That sales person should be bannished to the Casio counter where zero knowledge is required and customer service isnt an issue.
On a different note I have since become friends with guys in my local AD as I was unfortunate to be in there buying a watch for the wife when it was raided by armed robbers. We all got pepper sprayed and told to lie on the floor. not a pleasant experience. After the police interviews etc, the watch sales finally took place 3 hours after I walked in the shop. I had to go home and pretend to my wife that nothing unusual had happened.

I had a very similar experience when i called in to look at the DSSD in Goldsmiths in Meadowhall about 3 or 4 months ago, as i was dressed in Jeans and casual shirt.
The sales person looked at me...as if...well i had a look under my shoe, just to make sure I had'nt stepped in anything.

In the end i made a comment about my attire and walked out and put a post on here.
The response was the same, but The GMT Master actually sorted me out with my DEEPSEA and I have to say it was an absolute pleasure dealing with Chris and would not hesitate in highly recomending him to all here in the UK.

Will probably buy another Rolex before my time is up, but am so loving the Deepsea, it's going to be hard to wear a small watch again, I gave my 'old' GMT2 to my son but even his jaw dropped when he saw and tried on the Beast....to the extent he asked..well told me...to let him fill in the warranty papers...haha

Regards

Billy

Yep know the feeling. Goldsmiths in the City is a bit "off" and have a high opinion of themselves. I went in and they got all snooty over "Steel Sports" models as if they were uber rare and thus "no way will we ever budge on one". Ahh I see I thought looking at the DSSD that's been sitting there for weeks. Punters are queuing up aren't they?!!

Anyway Bond Street is the place to buy a Rolex if you can. They only sell Rolex so are "tuned " in. Normal AD's sell Tags etc so treat you like an idiot!

That is unacceptable. I would go to the manager with the name of the person that "helped" you, point out you had purchased a watch there months earlier and that was the last purchase you'll ever make from them!

Sorry to hear of your bad experience mate especially bearing in mind the money you've spent there.

When my wife & I went to pick up my new Sub' from Goldsmiths in Chelmsford a coupla weeks ago we were offered a seat & then informed that their coffee machine was broken.......
so one of the staff asked what we wanted from Starbucks across the road & they ran & got it for us.
