Watch Winder
Looking for a winder for the Rolex. Is there anything special I should know? Is there a specific kind of winder I should look for? A rep at one of the A D s in town told me you have to purchase the right kind of winder for your watch. That caught me by surprise, so I thought I'd check with the experts.

I think the recommendation is a winder should turn bi-directional and 650 turns per day. I use Wolf Designs.

check out orbita.com on line store. I purchased the dual winder sparta for probably $250 less than anywhere else. It is an awsome winder with five-year batteries.

Second vote for Orbita. I bought two Avanti 3 winders from Orbita's website and couldn't be happier. I highly recommend their products.

Do we *need* to have a winder for our watches? I have been debating on getting one, but it'll take up space on my cabinet... And I'm not really sure whats the benefit of it other than not having the need to set your watch when you want to wear it after some period of time...

IMHO winders are a great convenience, and not a necessity. I keep mine on a winder so I don't have to set it every time I wear it. The price of this convenience is a shorter service interval for my watches. Absolutely nothing wrong with just letting you watch sleep IMO.

Also I like to keep them in a safe place if I just left them on a nightstand at night at some point I would knock them off.

Just try to find a winder that allows you to adjust TPD. Rolexes will need 650TPD. Hope this helps.

Right you are Jib.
My Rolexes do well with 650 turns a day on my Brookstone winder. The SEIKO Orange Monster (which cannot be manually wound) loses time at only 650 turns...That one simply has to be worn. Not going to crank up the winder just for the SEIKO. |

I have a Rotolution Quad winder. Great on looks and functionality. Each rotor can be set to a different direction/TPD. Quiet. And the display lets you see quickly which rotor is doing what. It is beautiful. Settings are via Windows PC - which is great but can be a downside - you have to turn your computer/laptop on to make a quick change. The price is comparable and even better than other high-end quad winders. I think this is one of the better looking winders/display cases.
But for a more modest price, and with the same quad - individually adjustable - rotors (but without the display), I would recommend the Brookstone quad winder. It looks decent, can sit with the watch vertical or at 45 degree angle, and is quiet. The "pillows" that the watch is strapped around works well. The settings are via switches next to the rotors. Best of all, it is only $199. The only downside is that you can forget to turn a rotor on after placing a watch on it (I've done that) since there is no indicator that it is on - other than sitting there and "watching the watch turn" after a couple minutes - yes, you'll do it. I have a Brookstone sitting in the corner of my desk. The Rotolution is sitting on a cabinet, more for display.

I have both the dual and quad winder from Brookstone and like them both!. I like the simple clean look, they are very easy to use and it allows me to see my favorites each morning and evening! Mine are set for 650 bi-directional turns per day. Below are a couple pics! If you have any questions let me know!

I have a couple from Ace Timer. Work well and VERY quiet. They are kept in the bedroom and you can't hear them. I have a 4 watch winder model (about $150) and the 2 watch valjoux winder ($85). All the models have selectable settings for 650, 850 and 1000 turns both directions. The valjoux winder is clockwise only.

Love both my Orbita Spartas. Super quiet and the swing the watches instead of rotating. There is a lot of debate on whether rotating or swinging is better, but truthfully both will keep you Rolexes wound. Good luck on the quest!

if u have 2 auto watches, a single winder is great. keeps the one you're not wearing running and you end up wearing and enjoying both more. i have a wolf 2.7 winder & it works great.

I have a Rapport Captain's Chest winder, I've had it for over 4 years and it's still like new. Never had a problem with it oh and I think it looks great.
