New Purchase Opinion On A Daytona

Hi all,

I have the oppurtunity to purchase a new Daytona SS with a white face.
The problem I have is I need to sell one of my current Rolex's to fund the purchase. I have a 1990 Two tone Sub with a blue face that is in mint condition I think its "R" series. Recently serviced by Rolex.
I also have a new GMT IIC with black dial. The new GMT is one of the nicest Rolex's made. I actually like it better than the Sub. Look and feel are amazing.

The Sub is a classic, the blue face is not replicated with the new model. In fact Wempe dealer told me the old blue dial is more desireable and sought after.

Which would you let go of?

Welcome! I can tell you that if you were to sell either of those, you would get at least $500 more for the GMT IIc, if not more depending on its condition. IMHO, I would rather have the TT Blue Sub and the GMT IIc in my collection than the Daytona....which is waaaay overpriced for what you get.

I'd let the sub go, but only because it's a TT. Personal preference...

Thanks scott,
I am a bit on the fence as well because 10k is alot for ss watch. Either watch I have can be trade in for 5-6 k range. They are both great however I was always attracted by the the exclusivnes of the Daytonas. I know it's all marketing.

The new TT sub now list in the 11k range. I paid 4k. Would never pay 11k for a TT again. I like other toys as well.

I know I could keep both and buy a Paneria PAM 0000 to add to my collection. But I know very few watches can touch the the resale of a Rolex.

I would sell the GMT2c... it's easier to re-purchase should you want another one. :)

You have to ask yourself if I do this or that what will make me the happiest. Whatever you do, no regrets and no looking back.

You already have some real nice watches, how bad do you want that Daytona. I'm glad I got mine, but I am also happy I didn't have to get rid of any to get it.

Personally, the GMT2C can easily be bought again. That would be my choice.

Keep the sub. The GMT are a dime a dozen on the used market and can be bought for around $5k if you shop aggresivly

Good Point dddress....

I agree with you.......
It's hard do give up something if your not 100% what your gaining.

Aside from asthetics do you think the SS Daytona will have a greater value and collectibilty factor down the road or am I fooling myself ?

Don't know about 'collectibility' since the 116520 isn't being discontinued. Buy it because you enjoy wearing it. Don't worry about what other people think.

Happy Hunting!

Keep the Blusey TT, sell the GMT and buy the SS Daytona as its an icon; you can
always save for another GMT at a reasonable price in the future. Good luck!

GMTIIC - because you can almost walk into a dealer and buy it the next day. Your R serial TT blue Sub may not be the case
