Crown on the Crown
I know this may seem a lame question to ask but, the Rolex crown on the crown always seems to be perfectly vertical on photos ie points at 12 position but mine is not, its pointing towards the 4 position. which looks a bit weird. is this normal or is mine defective in anyway. Thanks I will be very grateful for any advice.

No problem, the crown can be pointing everywhere.

No worries. Most watches have the crown set for pics. Where your's or mine falls is completely arbitrary. dP

As above. There's no real way for them to line it up, given the positioning of the thread on the crown and the crown tube. As long as my crown screws down properly and keeps the watch watertight, I'm happy

This point has been debated here several times and the general concensus is that it is impossible for Rolex to get every crown straight up due to the unpredictable mingling of the threads in the crown and those on the stem. It's really not important and I don't think most of us are really anal about it. It's the luck of the draw and if you're real lucky (like I was with my TT GMT-IIC) then you could get one that's pointing straight up. But, honestly...........who cares? |

I wish ADs would take a few seconds to explain this.
It seems to be a bugaboo for a lot of people and the best place to quash the notion would be at the point of sale.

I can see where you're coming from, Grady.............but the point here is that the sales people at the AD have absolutely no idea that this is an issue!!

Hey, what about me? I admit, it's probably something that most wouldn't take into account, but it's not a common complaint from customers in my experience either. I think a lot of salespeople should perhaps brush up on the basics before worrying about details like this

Crown points that way for for the photograph, just like advertisements of food, the food has more than likely been painted so it looks it's very best. No advertiser wants to risk their product not looking 100%.

Truth is I must be the luckiest Rolex guy around. Every one I own lines up perfect except my 16610LV (newest purchase) and I actually asked about the alignment to dave SW, and was told its normal. Go figure! Drives me NUTS, silly they cant get that right.

I am sorta lucky, none of mine point up but all are 90 degrees turned further so they all look like the crowns on its side which I thought was the correct way for a long time. It even kinda makes sense to me so im not bothered by it. If it was oddly off center then it would get to me. But at the end of the day if it keeps water out I'm happy with it.
