Yachtmaster II vs New submariner
I am looking to buy a solid gold watch. I am looking at the yellow gold yachtmaster II and the new super case all yellow gold submariner with the blue dial. I like both but I am having a hard time deciding. I like the blue but the white face on the yachtmaster is very subtle which I like. Please let me hear your opinions

Welcome to TRF
If $$$ are not a problem since the Yacht is about$6K more I would go with the Yachtmaster II

Depends what you are looking for. Very different looks with the white or blue dials. If you truly want to be different go for the YM2. Also even though both are tool watches I don't think a gold diving watch is as true to it's purpose, but nothing wrong IMO with a gold sailor. Nice to have the choice, even if it is hard. Really go for whichever looks best on your wrist. Cheers!

Welcome to TRF..!
I have to echo Tony's reply here and say the YMII would be my choice if money isn't a factor. Enjoy the site, Rob.

The 4160 movement in YM2 has one of the highest ratings for movements ever along w the GMT's 3186. I am a huge movement guy and would buy the YM2 over the Sub based on that. obviously the Subs 3135 has the blue parachrom, but I dont think this movement is as sound as the 4160. I am still testing my 3135 in my LVC just purchased weeks ago however.

I would suggest that you look into the movement of the Yacht-Master II. If you are a yachtsman, then no problem, but the movement is not really of any use to us more ordinary folks.
At least the Sub has a lapsed-time bezel that can be used for myriad purposes.

Its also worth noting that the YM2 achieved the highest rating a watch has ever received in the WatchTime testing results. Noted is the GMT-C which received the second highest rating ever. again you cant go wrong w the YM2 and since no one really has it you should def. get that over the sub.

Money is always a factor but a difference of 7k for something I will keep forever is not that bad. I have to try the submariner on. My dealer said the sub would run me 20500 and the ym would be a hair under 27000. If anyone owns the yellow gold ym pleasesned pics and comments. Also, thank you to everyone and for making me feel so welcome. I look forward to many conversations.
Any groups in NYC ever get together for drinks and discuss and show off watches? |

Thanks for the comments. The difference would be about 7 grand which is a bit but not for something that will be passed down to my kids when I have them :). If anyone owns a yellow gold ym could send pics and comments I would appreciate it. In addition, thank you to everyone for welcoming me. I look forward to a lot of discussions. Are there any groups in NYC that get together for drinks and show off and talk watches?

Well, until someone shows up with a yellow gold YMII, you can find at least one very excellent one here.

I'd choose the Sub, the YM2, I can't live with the YATCHMASTER II engraving on the bezel. :(

Don't mean to change course, but if you are going to buy a watch made of soft yellow gold which scratches very easily but is a "tool" watch does that really make sense? If you are wearing it to and during sporting events, scratches are inevitable. Especially at the price point. If money is not an option and your preference is precious gold, easily scratched, go for a President or President II!
It is truly a dress watch made to be worn nice and cozy under your shirt sleeve. Not to mention the prestige and bling factor made to last! I would question buying a "sports/tool" watch made of solid gold any day. But, to each his own! |

Since $ isn't a worry, then go for the YMII - great new movement and stunning looks. Also, you'll see a lot fewer in the wild.

I would have to chose the YM2 as well. I would definitely want to budget in the daily SS watch however so that the Gold watch could be saved for the special occaisions however.
