Thinking of Trading the 14060M Volume II
Hi guys,
I currently have two Submariners, a Sea Dweller and a Datejust. I have recently come across a great deal on a GMTII-C and the only way I can justify purchasing it is if I trade one of my pieces away. I have found that four watches is the magic number for me. Any more than that and it becomes too hard to choose each morning! The watch I have decided to trade would be the 14060M V Series. Here is my rationale...I have recently acquired a 16600 Sea Dweller and it is absolutely incredible. Definitely my favorite all-around watch in my collection. It is the perfect daily wearer. Ever since I bought the SD, the 14060M seems to fall a little flat. Every time I reach into the safe and I want a classic diver, I always reach for the Sea Dweller. They have a nearly identical look, but the SD is more exclusive, has the date and I believe that the bracelet is vastly superior. The only thing keeping me interested in the 14060M is that I love to wear it on NATO and that has been a lot of fun. It really looks great on NATO; like a modern vintage 5513. I figure that the GMTII-C would give me a new GMT functionality that I don't currently have, PCLs for variety, new style bracelet/clasp PLUS it would be my first ceramic. What do you think? Would you make the trade?

Absolutely. If you're going to have 4 watches it makes sense to diversify. The sd and sub are very similar. Plus, you get a GMT and get to try the new case, clasp and bezel.
I'm a 4 watch man myself and go SD, GMT II PEPSI, speedy pro and air king. Diver, GMT, chrono, smaller dressier watch. |

Hard to argue against a GMT.

Keep the modern vintage 5513, since it most differs from the rest of your watches. If you want to have four different watches, and not four similar watches, the no date best completes your collection. And, what a beauty. |

While I prefer the 14060M to both the SD and GMTIIC, I'd rather have the SD/GMTIIC combo than the SD/14060M combo.
I think you'll pretty much be out of NATO options then, though, as I think the SD stands too tall on a NATO and the GMTIIC just looks a little to flashy for nylon. This wasn't an option you raised, but if it were me, I'd go 14060M/GMTIIC to have a classic diver that can go either bracelet or nylon, plus the variety of the GMTIIC. |

I flipped my SD and went for a 14060M & GMTII-C combo - I regret letting the SD go and I have no doubt that I would feel the same way about the 14060M............probably best just to keep the lot and add the GMTII-C.........then you will have no regrets!!

This is the best solution. If there's any way you can, keep them all and add the GMT. If you find after a few months that the 14060M just isn't getting used and you want the cash, you can still sell it. It's value is not going down.

So I should flip my absolute favorite watch in my collection (SD 16600) and keep the watch that has seen nothing but the inside of my safe for the past month because in all ways I find the SD 16600 to be superior???
The TT is non-negotiable because it was my first Rolex. A gift from my father 16 years ago, who has since passed away. The DJ may however be on the chopping block.

Man, I'd hate to be in your shoes.
I just couldn't part with any of those. I'd just have to save until I could afford the GMTIIc and then work out the rotation from there. That'd be the easy part.
