GMTIIc dilemma

I've had my GMTIIc for a couple weeks now and am very fond of it. It looks perfect to me and is amazingly accurate and well-made.

The problem is that I just can't get it set up comfortably on my wrist. I've tried adding and removing a link, all 3 micro-adjustment positions on the clasp, and tightening/loosening the easy link. I bought the watch to be a daily wearer, but by the end of the day I can't wait to take it off. Some combination of the weight and the angle of the bracelet link edges on the Rolex hasn't been working out. I generally wear my watches a little loose, but this watch rides up uncomfortably onto my hand.

It seems to weigh about the same as my 40mm Panerai (on a strap) that I've never had an issue with. I also had a 40mm AP Royal Oak on a bracelet that was very comfortable.

Anybody had a similar experience with a GMTIIc? Do you think I might get used to it over time? Is there anything else I might try before looking to trade it? I'm contemplating swapping it for the older, lighter GMTII 16710 model, even though I like so many things about the new one.

Thanks for any feedback!

Had mine for about a month now. Was also annoyed at first. Added a link, took it off... Got quite used to it eventually. Don't trade it, you will regret it later. I personally think that the new gmt is one of the best Rolexes out there.

I had a similar problem when I first got mine. I have a very small wrist and could not find a comfortable position, but the problem was that it was a tad too loose. The watch with too much play in the fit will be uncomfortable after several hours of wear. By tightening up the bracelet by moving the pin one hole, it is fine now. I discovered that it takes a while to get used to a snug fit (you should be able to fit the end of your pointer finger between your wrist and brcaelet) but once you do, you'll be fine. I suggest that you take it into an experienced AD with a good watchmaker who will help adjust it properly. They may change links from one side to the other to get a better fit.

No problems here, fits well. I do hope you get it sorted out as you wish.

I also had initial problems finding the right fitting. I like the watch to be slightly loose. The GMT IIc is heavier than the earlier GMTs and the case edge digs into the back of the hand if the watch is loose and slides down. I also played around with the "tightness" of the band and finally found a good compromise. I wear this GMT IIc with a tighter fit than my other GMTs and this works for me.

The fit and feel of the earlier GMTs is more comfortable, and thus finds more wrist time with me. But the IIc has a stunning look - more for the special occasions.

I think my sub with non sel is slightly more comfortable.
That said, it does rattle and I am not so happy
as it sounds like tin. My GMTIIC bracelet and clasp
has a much more satisfying feel and no tin sound
but is heavier. I have lost about 21 lbs since purchasing
it and removed a link. I may soon have to remove
another. It is uncomforable when too lose.

I had the exact same issue. I'd been wearing a Sub 16610 for years and then got a GMTIIC and for the first few weeks I couldn't get used to it, I really started to doubt that I was going to keep it. After a few weeks I got used to it and now it only come off when I take a shower or go for a run, besides that it is always worn. Give your self a few more weeks and I bet you'll end up loving it, good luck!

Are you using the small fold in or out link? I found this to be a way to increase and or reduce the fit on my GMT II-C. Bill

I wear mine on my right wrist...have for several years (since I had a cast on my left for several months)...anyway, my Sub is much more comfortable on the right and terrible on the left. The crown digs into the back of my hand. Try that.

My gmtIIC TT is my fifth Rolex and by far the best fitting yet. That little extension is perfect, since my wrist size changes slightly with the weather

I had a sea dweller that I could never get to fit right - and and was glad when it was gone.

If you only have one Rolex, get the one that is perfect for you. Style and fit.

yep, didn't like the gmt2c on my wrist, so i went back to a 16710.

the gmt2c does not strike me as a watch to be worn too loosely.

My watch fits perfect, straight out of the box. Only had to use the extension in hot climates

It can feel a little like wearing handcuffs ;)

First, make sure you have the bracelet adjusted correctly. Remove links and then fine adjust in the clasp but do NOT use the quick adjust. It is only for adjustments within the day when you swell up (I didnt know I do until I wore a watch with a steel bracelet).

If all fails, have you tried a NATO or other fabric strap? That might be more comfortable and looks pretty cool

Tx

The IIC does not have the glidelock clasp, just the fold out
half link. That is the only quick adjustment.

Thanks for all the advice! I tightened up the bracelet and will give it another month or so before doing anything drastic. Its nice to know I'm not the only one dealing with this issue.

I noticed that my wrist bothers me most when I wear the GMT2c for 2 consecutive days, so until I get used to it I'll try putting on something else every other day. Maybe thats a good excuse to go find another Panerai strap...

I had the same problem with my Milgauss GV. I guess it comes from comparing the wearing comfort with others that we're already very used to. I stuck it out and have now grown used to it.

It's heavier for sure, so like others I also set it firm so it won't easily slide. That should help your gmt iic sits nicely on your wrist.

My GMTIIC was my first Rolex and I actually think it is pretty comfortable. However I did notice I wear it more snug than any of my other watches. So yeah I gues the watch itself is just a different wearing watch.

I wear this one normally every weekday and the rest of mine are the ones I wear on nights out and on weekends. So in a way it is a favorite, besides it is my first.

I had the same situation. GMTIIC to be the daily wear and problems to get a comfortable fit. After 3-4 months of adjusting and testing, I believe I have found the comfortable settings. This is 5 links on 6 side, 5 links on 12 side and pin in middle hole, easy link out. I have around 6.9 inch wrist.
This is for winter. For summer, I will add a link, and put pin and easy link in.
For me the biggest factor was the number of links on 6 side... 4 just made it rub too hard on the wrist... 5 is more balanced.

I've adjusted my classic subs a dozen times over the years, as they are often too tight or too loose. Once I got my GMT-IIc adjusted right, I've never had to tweak it, just pop out (or in) the easy-link. The 3 micro adjustments are a pain in the ass to adjust though.
