Daytona SS - contemplating new purchase from AD

I was just at CDPeacock (AD in Chicago area) and after seeing a Stainless Steal Black Daytona (which they were holding for someone else who had already paid), put my name down on the wait-list for the next available one.

The saleslady told me that I might be able to get it around thanksgiving or by the end of the year, but I wouldn't really have any choice as to the color (white or black) since they are so hard to find. Just wanted to get some thoughts on the following:

1) Which is more rare? white or black? i think i prefer white.
2) The price she sold it to me for (I gave her my credit card number to charge as soon as the store gets the next batch in) was $10,400, which is MSRP. Is that a good price? since its MSRP. or should i try to find a used SS Daytona thats 1 or 2 years old? how much would those go for?
3) I noticed that on ebay brand new ones are going for about $11,500. so would i be walking out the door of the AD about $1,000 richer just by buying it?

BTW, this would be my first Rolex purchase (altho I have an old 1960s datejust that my dad gave me).

Thanks!

If you prefer white I would suggest waiting until you can get a white dial. Many people find the white dial easier to read if that's a concern.

Assuming you're paying sales tax, your total out the door cost will likely be over $11,000, so not sure there's an opportunity to make a profit by reselling.

Actually, I will be avoiding sales tax (10% in chicago) by having them ship it to my cousin in Cali ($40 each way) then having him ship it back to me. so my total outlay for shipping will be $80. So total cost to me would be $10,480.

so anyone know of someone who was able to get SS daytona for below MSRP?

Make sure you get insurance on that package! That's a long way to send a watch!

First of all, great choice! A little pricey for my pocketbook, but I do always get excited when I see a Daytona in the wild!

The biggest thing is get what YOU want though. That's bs if they said you wouldn't be able to choose between a white or black face. I also happen to think that the white looks better.

There are several very nice pre-owned ones here on TRF. A quick search found a very nice white one for $9450 shipped, there are others around that price as well. Figure tax in on your $10,400 one as well and its almost a $2k savings! Plus, you can have it alot quicker than Thanksgiving...

Wait for the white if that's what you prefer.

And check out the preferred sellers here...if I was going to pick up a daytona, or any model for that matter, I'd contact davidSW.

I wanted black. But own a white.

White has grown on me. Maybe because I own one.

I bought from CD Peacock at Oakbrook at msrp of 9925$ a few months ago. I also chose my color (black). I also got free stuff like 2 Panerai straps and an orbita winder... $700 value.

I got the freebies because there was no room off msrp... But my salesguy is awesome so he hooks me up in other ways.

Go to my guy instead.

could u give me the contact info for your guy? or maybe a scan of your receipt (with the identifying info blacked out) so that I can have my saleslady price match it? Did you have to get on the waitlist?

I would love to get some freebies. BTW, what is a panerai strap? thanks!

I'd wait for the white if thats what you want - they're both incredible watches but the black and the white faces are totally difference experiences on your wrist.

Used Daytonas are on average, $9-$10k realistically on the forums. Some $8500, some $10,5. MSRP for a brand new one then isnt a bad buy, considering you'll be getting the warranty too - but the sales tax will hurt.

Wait for the white if that's the one you really want; a lot of money to spend for "2nd best." I got mine for MSRP and no tax, so about a 9% discount.

Sorta all personal preference.

I paid list and tax cuz I like having my name on the warranty.
My AD has onsite service, and has always
Provided me first class service.
If your dealer ismore of a mall sales only type
store then I suppose
Service may not be as big of a deal.
