If you think you've got the personality to rock gold, then rock the s--- out of it. It's a sexy watch, no doubt.
If you're looking for something a little more subtle, and a TIMELESS Rolex classic, then the SS Sub-Date is the one. |

SS Sub Date is a great watch for you especially at 21. Very sporty yet elegant. Wait till you're in the real world making the big bucks then splurge on the TT Sub

Ill be 22 in May and rock a SS DJ that my Dad bought for me. Although gold is nice, I definately think it is for the 'older' crowd ( No offense Guys )
I'd go for the SS for now and later down the road get the TT.. Just my thoughts Mike |

Are you only looking for a Sub? What about a GMT or Yachtmaster.I like how the GMT looks a little different, And its just as recognizable as a Sub, Not to mention adding the GMT feature which is really cool! |

If you plan on keeping it for a long time, go for the TT. Get what you really want the first time around and you won't ever have to worry about it again.

IMO, You need not let your age influence your decision. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder as they say. Which one smiles back at you the most?

Get a watch that you will have for your whole life. I love my GMT ll with the black face. It lets you have the travel hand, and is so beautiful and classic. The Sub was a perfect SECOND watch for me. I will always have the GMT as my all around watch as it is so functional. I love SS as it is timeless. I am 51 and do not yet have a Rolex TT or gold watch....not becasue I could not do it, but because I really identify with the Silver.
I only desire 2 more Rollies. A white face GMT Explorer ll, and a TOG, either TT or with white gold bezel. Someday I might consider the the platinum president with jubilee, as I think I need to experience a Jubilee bracelett durnig my life. How did we get this love of these Rollies? |

First, you can buy the watch that smiles at you. (Beauty is captivating, but will you wear it anytime and anywhere? A watch is still a tool of timekeeping)
Second, you can buy the watch that smiles at you and you will not "fear" wearing it, as you might be a little young. (ie SS might be better) The TT or gold bits can wait till later in life, more success is waiting for you. I know how you feel. When I first bought my vintage TT Datejust in jubilee, I was around 25 yrs and working at a hotel as a porter. I attracted waaaayyy too much attention. But now at 38, and being the "chief kahuna" in the company, no issues there. No raised eyebrows, or "Is that real?". Hope I've not confused you too much. |

I would say it depends on which one he is willing to discount more.
