I have been screwed

I bought an $8,000 18238 President Day/Date and the pictures clearly showed 24 links. I told the seller to resize the watch to fit my 6 inch wrist and include the other links in the package. Anyway I just received the watch today and there's 20 links in the watch, fits my wrist just fine, and 3 separate links.

My missing link...

Probably worth at least $100 in melt value. President solid gold links are being sold on eBay for $150 - $250 a link. Why is everyone turning into thieves these days? I emailed the guy a while ago, no reply yet, I'll be patient for now and not reveal his identity..

Am I overreacting? That link is part of the $8000 that I paid, it's the principle of the matter as well.. lately a lot of people have been trying to pull fast ones over me, I guess the economy is bad but come on.. have some self respect.

Hey kabayan, hope everything still turns out well. Give the seller a day or two to reply. Keeping my fingers crossed.

You're definately not overreacting.. You paid for 24 links, which is what you basically own now, but don't have. Good luck on getting the last link!

Thanks guys. I thought maybe I jumped the gun by posting this and instead should've waited a day or 2 and see if the guy sorts it out, but I was just angry due to this and other recent events and had to vent, and haven't revealed his identity yet so giving him the benefit of the doubt.

Many times people I deal with say they made a "mistake", every single "mistake" it's me on the losing end. One would think the law of probability would apply.

Got that off my chest. Feel better now.

I hope you do get your link back as you wished, and it could be an oversight by the seller. If its not an oversight, please keep in mind, all the energy and time spend to get this link back to its rightful owner, will it be more in value then the link itself?

The principle is that you should had received your link as promised and no you are not over reacting! Fingers crossed this gets resolved with a happy ending!

Maybe it would have been best not to post anything until you've heard from the seller. You're kind of jumping to conclusions and it could just be an honest mistake. He sold you an $8000.00 watch and did everything he said he would do. Doesn't make a lot of sense for him to try and keep one link after all is said and done. Just my opinion.......

I agree, he is not going to try and screw you out of 1 link. simple mistakes like that do happen.
Hope you get it though.

The Missing Link....

I would have had the watch shipped as is, then removed as many links as necessary with a $5 screwdriver to ensure a proper fit. But that's just me.

Sounds from his email that he's going to send you the missing link, so all should end up OK.

His initial reply is posted below. Clearly that's not how it works and he's insulting my intelligence emailing me this type of bullshit. I'm continuing the communication to see what eventually happens.

"Akshay,
We try our best to never charge our customers for additional links.
So we try to keep in stock as many as possible.
If you would of said your wrist was 9 inches, we would of included
the additional links at no charge. But since you said you needed it smaller.
We kept a link. But still sent you enough, if you needed them.
This way we are able to fit it to a needs of our clients without
additional costs.
We do not sell links, they are a courtesy to our
larger customers."

But he didn't say his wrist was 9 inches. He should get the link that was removed. He should be getting all of the links at the time of the purchase no more no less!

Told him I'm giving the watch to my father who has a 9 inch wrist, and whether he'll send a bunch of the SOLID GOLD links or just 1 or none.

He also said he would mail the box to me by regular mail, yet not a single update regarding that. Guy's got a very famous jewelry store in Florida, 100% +ve feedback on eBay, most all high ticket sales.

Anyway it all started like a scam anyways. He was selling it for around $8,900 and $150 shipping. I mail the guy for the best price, show him a link on here where someone sold 1 of em for $7,500, he gives me the offer of $8,150 incl shipping. Everything was discussed: resize the watch, INCLUDE the other SOLID GOLD links, mail the box via regular mail. So then I send the wire, let him know it's sent.

He then emails back saying wire's been received and that he removed the eBay auction and the watch is mine. I say oops I forgot to complete the sale on eBay, can u put up the page again so I can complete the same. He then says (AFTER I already sent payment), well that special price was with no eBay. I go "hmm u did not tell me this before, I was not aware, no problems I hope all goes well". I had already sent him the money, didn't want to antagonise him in any way. Anyway he did screw eBay.

This was about a week ago. And then now this. Not a single update about the status of the box, even though I've asked a couple times, and HE STEALS MY GOLD LINK!!! I guess he felt he had impunity to screwing me over cuz I can't post feedback on eBay anymore. I'll probably call n let em know about his MO if he won't give me my link.

It's not a big deal as far as value goes, it's just the principle. Little things bother me a lot, maybe I need to work on that personality flaw, I'm just very principle oriented. To me it's less about the value of what was taken, more about the act of taking what's mine and thinking he outsmarted or pulled a fast 1 over me. When u let people rip u a little they get bolder n the next time it's worse, we have to call ppl out on their BS the first time it happens to keep em in line. I pulled silly stunts like this when I was much younger but then realised I wouldn't get far in life if thats how I was doing things.

LOL read this and i am the exact same way.. sometime i think i need to work on it a bit too. (not sweating the little shit) but principle is huge with me as well and it makes it hard not to get bothered!

The watch was advertised with a certain number of links and you purchased ALL the links. If you decide that you do not need 1,2, or 3 links that is your choice. And what if you were planning to sell the watch in 6 months, 1 year, etc. More size options would attract more buyers. Please let us know who the seller is if you do not get your link.

That is exactly what I said to him last week. "Could u resize the watch to fit my small 6 inch wrist and include the other links in the package in case I ever sell it?" and his reply was "of course".

He said he will mail it and the box too tomorrow, but only after I told him about the existence of this thread. Kinda interesting as I thought the box would've been in the mail last Thursday just like the watch. But nevermind, as long as I get it I guess...

Kinda sad tho that sm1 would do the right thing only after u threaten to expose their MO, not cuz it was the right thing to do anyways.

I'm sorry pal but I just can't get my gander up on this one.

It's the txtspk that's getting to me.

I'm familiar with the seller and have contacted him to help the OP get this taken care of. I've done many high end deals with him and never a problem. This shouldn't be a big deal. A little patience please...

Thanks, Scott B.

A high end dealer in Florida. Wonder who this could be?

Too bad the buyer had to go thru a third party to sort this out. Sounds to me like the buyer is having problems with this seller.

None taken. Had he told me I may have agreed to pay the 3% ebay fee for the protection. I could've completed the sale on eBay b4 sending payment had I remembered to, so I actually dont think it was even that. Missing box, missing link... quite a few infractions if u ask me. But whatever, I'm done beating this dead horse.

and to be fair i didn't realise he forgot the box. or maybe that was to save on custom charges? sending them seperatley with under values, is done frequently enough. Was the watch shipped internationally?

Anyway seems more than just the one mistake- but still it will be sorted.
:cheers

Yes, international. During the negotiations I told him to ship the box separately and everything was agreed upon b4 I made payment. To be fair from my end too, it is a very beautiful watch. I hold no animosity as long as I eventually get what I should. Maybe he thought I'd be so impressed with the watch (which I am) I'd forget about the link and box.
