Have you guys ever thought of downsizing your collections?

Just a thought.. We are all watch maniacs.. Haha.. But, have you guys ever thought that you just had too many watches? Have you guys ever thought of selling most, if not almost all of your collection?

The reason I'm asking is, I currently think I have one too many watches already.. At lest the high end ones, and not to mention the mid and low.. I just have more than enough to wear at least two a day (one by day and one by night) and can still won't wear the same watch twice in a week.

So I'm thinking of downsizing and keeping the ones I would use the most.. While keeping just enough options for several occassions..

What about you guys?

Not me---change of direction in terms of next purchases-adding more vintage pieces-but not downsizing!

Definitely in a downsizing state of mind. Had a dozen watches less than two years ago, mostly cheaper boutique brand divers. All are now gone, replaced by a couple of Breitlings and very soon a Rolex to finish out the collection (at least for now). Having tried the alternative, I much prefer having fewer, better watches that get more wrist time.

Well I guess there are many different responses.. Great to hear that.. Honestly, I always thought downsizing was a bad idea.. But when I look at my watch case.. Buying watches and then not wear them enough.. Is a bad idea too hahaha..

Well if money was a no issue, probably I wouldn't care much. But alas, I have limited funds and those spent on watches are quite a fortune hehe..

To be honest, I have downsized in the past, but ended up building the collection up again. It's no use for a watch lover like me to downsize !

A few years ago I liked watches, then it occurred to me that I was only wearing the Rolex. Since then I have "downsized" the collection to only Rolex, and more specific sport models. The green bezel was nice, the coke was beautiful, but I have come to learn that I want 'em ROLEX & ALL BLACK. That's why I'm here. RS

I've recently been entertaining the idea of consolidating a couple of piece to one newer, nicer piece...

In the past two years, I've had as many as 5 very nice watches simultaneously and more regularly 2-3 at any one time. I decided that I really need just one nice watch and so that is what I have at the moment.

Sometimes the thought crosses mind (like now for instance!). There's something that feels special about having that 'one' rolex... But then I think about how I love the choice. How having a few means each one feels so special when it's on, because as soon as I become complacent about it I switch.

And I enjoy that so much!

Yes I think about it all the time, especially as I get older.

The reason is I think there's little point in my owning 9 Rolexes (plus 5 Omegas, 2 Panerais and a Breitling) because eventually, the maintenance gets to be too much of a hassle (not to mention that it's expensive as well).

Much as I hate admitting it, swapping 2 older watches for one new one makes sense to me.

well , it not a matter of downsize , it a matter of whether u like it or not, i wont even want to sell my first lovely breitling evolution TT or any of my other watch but as i stated is a matter of how much u like your watch or not , i only buy a certain brand and keep it in my safe cause i love the design and the dial and etc. if u think u have too many watch , u should sell some away and make use of the money on other stuff like car and houses :P

Have recently downsized to 3 watches a white faced SS Daytona, a vintage red sub and a 312 Panerai. I can easily rotate these and all 3 give me a different feeling. Possibly need a more dress watch but all 3 can fit that purpose along with all 3 being somewhat sporty with strap changes. Having had up to 8 watches I was feeling guilty about not wearing the watches and now I fell I am at a good place......for now......Also coming from a humble background I felt there was just too much cash doing nothing sitting in my safe...Just my 2 cents worth...

When I reached 50 watches, and only used the same 4-5 watches, I started to downsize, and still in progress.
I now have about 20 watches.

I like the saying: Less is more. I have used this in downsizing, and says: Less and more.
The value of my collection i roughly the same, I have just bought some more expensive pieces. I have probably sold 3-5 watches, to just buy one new.

The only watches I have are those that I purchased just this year. I must say I have found this hobby to be quite addictive and rather fun. I am now gaining a little more knowledge and a greater appreciation for watches and the art of making a great time piece.

I have yet to get to the point where downsizing has ever come up for me personally. I'm still in the process of upsizing. I have been rather fortunate to have the ability to attain the ones I currently have, however as long as I have the ability I will probably pursue a couple more.

Only time will tell.

I'm in the process of downsizing now, I found that some of the watches just weren't getting any wrist time. I'll make a couple of new purchases next year, but I have no plans to get back to nearly the number of pieces as I've had in the past.
