My First Rolex - Explorer I 214270
Sir/Madam,
Just want to share the story of my first purchase of Rolex, it is an 39mm Explorer I. Below are just my personal observation and have no intention to insult anyone. Three Models in my mind :- 1. Sub No Date : I always like the clean design and also the rich history of this model. However, once I wear it on my wrist at the AD just now, it seems so..."clumsy", the lungs is too round and too small. It looks like a toy watch sitting on top of my wrist. So, no go. 2. Explorer II : Many people told me the bezel looks bad, and it is very scratch-prone. I don't really agree. However, when I wear it on my wrist, those reason become obvious and it quickly change my mind, this is not what I wanted. No go as well. 3. Explorer I 39mm : Now, this watch really sing to me. When the sales person take it out from the safe, even before it was on my wrist, me and my wife immediately shout "WOW! Impressive"...It is so elegant yet rugged. No matter you dress-up or dress-down, it is not awkward. I borrow a suit from the AD's Manager (I was wearing Jeans and T-shirt that time), and it goes so well with the Explorer I. It is not too small for my wrist and I like the new clasp compare to the older model Sub No Date and Explorer II. It is also super-comfortable. I used to take off my Omega Planet Ocean when I am typing on the keyboard, but with this, it is no longer an issue. Also, what I like about it is, no cyclops ! I seriously hate cyclops, it really spoil the beauty of the dial. Also, I love the lume even though it is missing on the 3, 6, 9 position. Long story short, I walk out with an Explorer I on my wrist, cost me 3 years of saving, USD 5625. I attached some pictures for your viewing pleasure. It is not professional grade quality. Again, my intention is not to hurt anyone's feeling but merely my personal taste and preference. Excuse my English as it is not my native language, proud to be a Rolex owner and happy reading. Thank you. |

Great watch an Explorer 36mm was my first Rolex as well.
Pet Peve Alert: It's an Explorer, not Explorer I. There is the Explorer and the Explorer II.
