Visit to NYC Panerai boutique and 351

I'm in NYC on business and I had the opportunity to swing by the Panerai boutique in New York and finally got to meet Sharif in person (very kind and service minded). More importantly I went to finally check out the 351 in person, as well as how it would look on a Jules Verne/JV OEM strap. Wow!!! I'm been a bit sour on Panerai for some time, but this is truly an elegant piece with a very attractive mix between sport and elegance.

I'm going to try to rearrange a watch I bought last week from a AD, and have yet to wear as I'm on travel, to see if I can trade it for a 351.

Big congrats to any TRF brother who managed to pick this piece up. Truly gorgeous!

Yeah, that watch on the JV is a no-brainer!

Stay tuned, with a bit of luck and an understandable AD I should be able to make the switch. I like the JLC Navy Seals Alarm I just picked up, but I think I prefer something a tad more elegant like the 351.

The 312 and 351 both have the date function.

312 is SS with black dial and silver hands and 351 is Ti with brown dial and gold hands. Those are the main differences.

I really want the 312, but recently got turned on to the 351 mainly because of the light-weight Ti case. Not sure if the brown dial is my thing though. I need to see one in the flesh.

351 is a stunning watch but i think that 312 is more all around watch.

Also have in mind that titanium collects scratches and dings like magnet.

I have both the 177 and 351. I don't see them being any easier to ding or scratch compared to my SS watches. Are you saying this through personal experience?

I'm with you on this question. I've owned both Ss and Ti Panerai and have had no experiences to suggest one scratches easier than the other. People often talk about this failing of Ti, but I just don't understand it.

Hi guys, haven't posted in a while, but hopefully I'll have some more time to hang out here.

I find that the Ti is softer and nicks or scratches easier, but the marks also don't show up as much and are more camouflaged.

The 351 looks awesome, but I actually prefer the 240 or 177. Love the all brushed luminor cases!

OK, I was all sold on this 351 until I tried on a 233K... Love the flat back with overall thinner profile, the domed '50-ies crystal and the larger numbers. Yummie!!!

How come one always find a more expensive alternative, never a cheaper one???

Thoughts:
The 351 is gorgeous. I love Ti watches. But I also find that I like the black dial better for two reasons, the contrast and the ability to mix/match with more straps. But the Ti/brown/gold combo is a classic.

I do love all the 320/312/351 designs, but the 1950 case + the dome crystal on models like the 233 is really special. Before I had one, I wasn't sure I'd like the dome. Once I got the 233, I was mesmerized by the dome crystal. I loved it so much that I sold my 233 so I could get a bigger 1950 case and dome with a less busy dial:

And last, when it comes to SS vs. Ti for scratches, I think that's a wash. I seem to have just as many marks and scratches on my SS watches as my Ti watches. And when I get a scratch on my Ti watch, a scotchbrite pad takes it out with barely any effort. But a scratch on my SS watch takes TONS of cape cod polishing to get out. And brushed SS has to go to my AD for scratch removal. Brushed Ti scratches come out in a flash with that scotchbrite pad.

So I would go with which ever model sings to you the loudest. That's the only way you'll be happy. Which one can you not stop thinking about at night? :)
