Hello,

Why are the polished center links on a Daytona not an issue but a deal breaker for some on the GMT 116710?

The only SS oyster bracelet w/ PCL's I like is on a SS Datejust.......IMHO, SS GMT's & Daytona's look
better w/ non PCL oyster bracelets.

I never gave the PCL a second thought on the Daytona's I've owned. That was how a Daytona looks, period.
That said, I think when the Daytona first came out ('70's) the bracelet was all brushed?

It seems most Rolex buyers (watch buyers in general) want more of a jewelry piece than the original intent which was for a specific purpose. And we, the enthusiasts are in the tiny minority of buyers.

From my observations, PCL are a love or hate feature, unlike comparing a black or white dial Daytona, GMT vs Sub, etc.

What if Rolex put PCL on the SS Sub/date?

I agree with the above that say traditionally the GMT was (is?) considered a tool watch. Not only was the watch designed as a pilot's watch, but was a favored reference with military types back in the day.

Additionally it was a reference frequently accociated with the early astronaut corp and made it's way into space more than once.

Rolex has taken the reference perhaps in a new direction. Not that it's any less a watch than it's predecessors (and maybe in some ways better?), but it certainly has more flash than the days of yore.

I've heard some say it is too "blingy" for them. Others have pointed out it shows scratches more readily.

I think it looks just fine in its polished stated (unscratched), but it's no bark.

I think that the PCL's on the GMT dresses up the watch and differentiates it nicely from the Sub. As far as the question re: the Daytona, I think that it's a great question.

Love the PCLs in the watches that they are on. Seems to me like Rolex knows just how to design a watch (IMO).

Great to have PCLs on my GV and my Daytona. Fits them both.

I got a Jubilee on my DJ largely because I didn't much care for the look of polished center links on the DJ.

Had there not been a choice, it most likely wouldn't have been a deal breaker, but before the advent of the PCLs, I preferred the Oyster on the DJ, rather than the Jubilee.

There may have been some other reasons that influenced my decision, like wanting a watch that was similar to the Explorer, which I already owned, but with enough differences to make them both distinctive.

Well, they are for me. I'm selling my IIc and trying to think of what I will replace it with. Too many Rolex have PCL for my taste. Oh well, vintage or other brands will suffice.
