Anyone recommend ultra-sonic cleaners?

Hey guys, always looking at ways to clean my watch.

Heard of those ultrasonic cleaners - the type that you put the watch inside the basket of the machine and then set it.

Are these bad for a Rolex?

Any recommendations on a particular model?

Thanks!

That's what I was thinking, not to sure on how to detach it from the case. I did size it myself though!

there are tiny slots on the underside of the case through which you can access the springbar. Reach in there with a springbar removal tool, tiny scissors or what not and get a hold of the lttle bump on the springbar.

Push the bump towards the center of the watch.

push this side of the bracelet away from the watch so the springbar doesnt slip back in and repeat on the other side.

CAUTION: do not slip with your tool or you will scratch the case to shit.

you can snap a decent cleaner up on ebay for $20. brand doesn't really matter

if you want something a bit more solid get a commercial cleaner. as already mentioned only clean the bracelet...

I'm curious why it's recommended to clean the bracelet only in these cleaners. Could they damage the watch somehow?

Yes, the oils from your skin. Once cleaned, it may squeek a bit, but after wearing it for a few days, the oil from your skin will lubricate it once again.

Correct. The bracelet must be removed from the case.

The ultrasonic cleaner vibrates dirt away, as well as vibrating the oils out of all the jewels! Any Rolex placed in an ultrasonic cleaner (case and all) will be in need of a service! Not recommended.

I just use a Karcher jet wash with loads of detergent and give mine a good blast with the jet lance, bracelet and watch come up a treat. As a bonus , with this method you get get rid of the dirt that is hiding under the bezel too. No namby pamby ultra-sonic cleaners for me, too slow.

The movement will have serious issues after an ultrasonic bath.

That much constant vibration will break small parts as they bounce together.
