Pre Owned Rolex(s)

Here is a thought. I love rolex and I have owned several pre owned, with few problems, as they say buy the seller not the.......

However whenever I buy a pre owned watch, especially a Rolex I cannot help to think of where this watch has been and who had it before. I think this web site makes my imagination run wild.... lets recap.

How about the guy who wanted to open up his watch to "do his own service"

or the person who wanted to shoot some WD-40 inside

or the other guy who wanted to restore a watch by buying it piece by piece....

There are countless other examples of this. My admiration of my watches ends at me staring at it or occasionally changing to a NATO.

The thought of picking up one of someones old experiments is scary to me, however as they say a factory service cures all.

Not really sure the point of my post, but I often think of some of the past posts and it kind of pushes me to spend a little more to go with a better seller or even new.

It would be interesting if Rolex kept a database that would track all the previous owners of a watch. Do they already do this?

How could they? Look at how many people buy and sell on this forum alone. Rolex has no way of tracking all the little guys and their crazy flipping habits, and really why would they care to.

Back in 08 I remember reading a thread on WUS about this guy that washed his sub in the dish washer

I have no qualms buying used. Factor in a fresh service, if you're really worried.

Used really is the only way to find vintage.

I check the sellers threads and choose to deal with sellers who have earned a reputation of service and honesty. I have had no worries sending bank wires to Tony (justrolexes), Jon(legacytime), Oscar(bodybump), David(davidsw). And, George(georgeab) was very cordial about a deal that did not go through. I am sure there are others, but these are my trusted guys.
Just my opinion based on great experiences.

Its like buying anything second hand, you need to be sure all is working correctly (handle it/get it checked out) and the price is right. If it is then I really wouldn't worry about it. If you find buying pre-owned troublesome then go for brand new from an AD.

I am also a but apprehensive of buying pre-owned from someone I don't know, for those very reasons.
