Hi, we visited Tokyo and Hong Kong last week - I took just a couple of pictures as carrying a big DSLR is too heavy after all the meals over there

Unfortunately I didn't have time to visit any watch shops. Too busy eating and carrying the goods for the wifey...

Those are some of the best skyline shots I've ever seen. I spent time in HK as a child and they are some of my most vivid memories. Excellent work.

Excellent photos! Two of my favorite cities in Asia! The photo from "The Peak" in HK is beautiful! Been there myself many an evening enjoying the view and The Peak Lookout Restaurant.

These photos were taken using Nikon D90 with Tamron 17-50mm VC lens, the food shot was from a Panasonic ZS3 P&S.
Since we were traveling, I tend to take at most 1-2 lenses, and in this trip I only took the Tamron, as I got the other P&S which can zoom far.

i've got an 18-200mm VR but it needs a clean/oiling.

The 3 night shots were taken using D90 with Tamron 17-50. The food shot was taken using Panasonic ZS3. I got other better lenses but the Tamron beats hands down as a good travel lens. It's light, fast (F/2.8) and small. My other glasses are either too heavy, big or slow.
When I switch to full frame I'll use the 28-300 as travel lens. It's a wonderful lens similar to 18-200 but on full frame bodies. I bought the 28-300 during this trip

Hong Kong has been on my top 10 places to visit list now for abot 10 5 years!

I want to see the buildings at night more than anything.

You just made me want to go even more!

2carless, you have a much steadier hand than I. I bought this on the canon platform as a replacement for my 17-55IS and apparently had a lot of trouble keeping things still and wound up keeping the 17-55IS

I think an F2.8 lens is very good

The Tameron VC you refer to Kai what does VC refer to? Is it a vibration reduction lens that lets you take advantage of the Nikon VR technology.
I was thinking of getting a Nikon 135mm F/2 which is not a zoom lens but it got a review which said it was awesome. I guess there is no single great lens, otherwise they would only make one type.

Hey Steve, VC means vibration control. Nikon bodies haven't got Vibration reduction inbuilt and they rely on the lenses to do VR, so 3rd party lens manufacturers also have to do their own VR thingie. With VR / VC on my D90, I can do 1/10 or even 1/8 second exposure handheld without much trouble. The HK shot here has 1s exposure with F/2.8 aperture resting on a glass panel at the roof of "The Peak". It's just passable on low resolution but once blown large it's blurry.
