Is it illegal to send Rolex watches to Canada as it is to US?

A Canadian citizen has asked me if it's legal to post Rolex watches to Canada or is it illegal and just the same as sending to US i.e illegal? The watch would be sent from outside both the US and Canada. Thanks in advance.

It is fine. The issue here in the US is specifically with Rolex USA in NYC!

Absolutely legal but could be expensive i.e. customs, duties & taxes. Of course that depends on how you send it and declare it. How creative are you. If it's a service repair return there should be little to no estra costs. Whatever you claim has to be plausible.

It is legal, but watches are subject to Canadian import duty. Whether the custom office will actually charge it depends on many things including your luck, but they have the right to.

Legal

importer gets hit with HST (here in Alberta 5% GST only), plus 5% excise tax. Also brokerage fees if it comes by a courier such as Fedex.

Any brand of watch from any country can be imported into Canada, but there are costs involved. The fees are 5% import duty based on the appraised value of the item (a realistic seller's invoice will do) on any item not originating in Canada, USA, or Mexico (NAFTA), plus applicable HST/GST, plus $5 processing fee.

The 20% Canadian import luxury tax was abolished in April 2007.
