Would you get a Sub-C if you already have a 16610?
Got my first Rolex a short while ago, a nice regularly-serviced U series 16610. Had Omegas and Breitlings before (still do).
I have, however, been thinking (obsessing) about the Sub-C. Would getting one be too much overlap? The 16610 Sub with the smaller lugs is iconic and I don't intend on getting rid of it. In fact, it gets the most wrist time now (actually, as I type, I have it on my left wrist, while my Speedy Pro is on my right wrist -- only do this while at home ). I know I have to do what is right for me, but just would like some of your thoughts. Thanks. |

If you meant the black Sub-C: If I were you, I'd wait until Basel, because there's a teeny-tiny bit of chance that Rolex will roll out a Sub-C NoDate there. That would be a perfect mate for your 16610 IMHO.
If you meant the green Sub-C: Go for it! |

I was meaning the black Sub-C, but the no-date idea is superb!
Green.... hmmm..... not ruling it out, but need more mulling over. Certainly there would be no problem as there would be little real overlap with the 16610, but the colour raises other concerns. ;-) |

Personally I'd say no.
If you like the new case design of the SubC then i'd recommend looking at a GMTiic, it's a beautiful watch that feels great on the wrist. It gives you all the new design features of the SubC (only difference being the SubC clasp is marginally better) but looks even better in my opinion |

So, Sub-C black -- perhaps too much overlap; Sub-C green -- too green, though nice; Sub-C no date -- not yet here, and overlap still an issue; GMT IIC - no overlap, similar design, GMT functionality, but less (though enough) WR. On paper (metaphorically speaking), the decision should be easy...... |

It is not as green as you think for most of the time. The photos are deceptive. The dial is often black but when the sun just catches it you see the flash of green just like someone has turned on the light. Peter |

No. I'd like to spend years togheter with a fine watch as a Sub is, rather than changing it every time they update the design. If i was to change the watch everytime a new collection comes out, I'd wear a colourful Swatch...

I would.
They are almost "the same", but "different" enough. |

I love the subs so I will be in the minority here and say YES... I would certainly look at the green too, as one said it is really not that green

I would. I've got the sub-c and am looking at getting a 16610 to add to the collection. Old and new, the perfect combination.

I had the same concern as the 16610 is a classic, but once I saw the ceramic bezel in person I was hooked. I love both watches , but the ceramic get most of the wrist time. Although the subc is heavier, it's much more comfortable to wear than the 16610.

I like the 16610 so much that I would not. I would be looking at other Rolex models, maybe even variations on the 16610, like the LV or 14060. I think for now I am done with the ceramic models.

I have had the Sub-D LV on my wrist.....nice. Do check it out in person to see if the clasp bothers you.... length. If you have big wrists it should not be a problem. Else, lay down until the urge goes away.

I had a 16610LV and made the bold move for a black Sub-C. I could not keep both at the time as my watch fund has a ceiling on it and so I sold my 16610 a few weeks after getting the Sub-C, to be sure I was happy with the new one. I have no regrets with the Sub-C. I do have intentions of one day getting another pre-ceramic Sub, most likely a 14060M or 5513, as I do miss certain things about the classic.
If you have the ability to get both, I say go for it! |

I had neither sub a short while ago and decided to get a classic 16610 rather than the newer ceramic one. The new one just didn't do it for me.

I have a 14060, 16610 and a SD, but would buy the new Sub, if I had funds to do so.

they are too similar they have essentiallythe same movement. the blue spring being the significant change but really not that big a deal . the other big change is the band the new one is imo far superior. the green is an awesome option and since you alreadyhave black its a perfect solution. the ceramic bezel claims not to scratch easily but there has been a few pictures of them chipping. but if your jonesing for the new thing. did i mention the green one? it was definately hot in person! good luck. |
