Do you own a birth year Rolex?

If so, what is it? What is the story of how you acquired it? And what does it mean to you personally?

I've been thinking of getting one and would love to hear your stories. And post pictures, please!

I was thinking of the same thing as I was driving home from work tonight. I am glad i am not the only who's thinking of another excuse for a new watch.

Sounds neat, where would you go about finding one from the early 80s?

No pics but I have a birth year oyster (1959). I think it's a 6424, not positive. I was at my watch repair guy and he pulled out a pristine SS Oyster. A couple of chips on the edges of the glass but otherwise perfect. The price was right and when he looked at the S/N and said it was fom 1959 I knew it was fate. Bought a nice croc strap for her and she's my business casual watch.

My late father left me his Explorer which was given to him by Rolex the year I was born (1965)! It is the only really personal thing that I have left from my Dad so means everything to me. Cheers.

I have a 16610 from the year my daughter was born. I hope to pass it on to her when she's old enough to wear it.

Me too.
Actually I was looking for one but I gave up cause the vintage market is very tricky.
I 'll think it again when I 'll visit London, where are a lot of second hand and vintage shops.

I've bought a sub-c LV this year, which happens to be the year that my daughter will be born (July), so I guess I qualify as owning a birth year Rolex...

I picked up a mint and unpolished 1970 5513 a few years ago, very excited at first but that faded fast. I flipped it because I was not comfy wearing it all the time.

Born in 1960... not sure what I would get, but the idea of a birth year watch is very cool.

I don't know if this is my birth year watch but it's darn close. It depends on which serial number chart you check. I got it kinda' by a fluke. I guess it's kinda' like destiny. We belong together. I plan on keepin' this one 'till I stop tickin'.

That's what I aspire to, actually.

I like to wear mechanical watches because I can feel like I'm one with the watch - moving together, ticking together, and in a way, rooting for each other to keep moving and ticking. That's why a birth year watch appeals to me especially.

Congrats to all who own one and love it. I better start saving for mine for real.
