My wife's car was just broken into

Nothing of value kept in there, the police caught him in the act and chased him through our backyard. Caught him.

Jerk left her doors open tho in this blizzard. On the bright side we found out now instead of when she had to go to work and the battery was dead.

Just crazy.

At least they caught him. 99% of the time these car thieves are never caught. My mom's car was broekn into a couple of months ago and they took several of her CDs, a pair of Chanel sunglasses and a pair of cross country skis and boots. Oh and they broke her passenger window to gain access as well.

The fact that the caught him in action made me feel good for once about the taxes I pay LOL

Looked like a younger kid, and apparently he had broken into a home and a convenient store earlier in the night.

If someone is caught breaking into my car, they had better hope it is the police that catch them.

Ever had a gun put to your head? Property is not worth it. No matter how tough you actually may be, just remember there is always someone out there who is tougher, more ruthless, and has less to lose. Not sure why someone would potentially risk their life to save the insurance company a payout.

Maybe he doesn't have insurance.

I think you misunderstood the scenario: a car burglary (not a carjacking or armed robbery).

I did read correctly. Perhaps you misunderstood my point

You would be confronting someone who is thug enough to steal a car; this type of individual also has a higher propensity to pull a gun than a rational person. And what are you going to do if you do get there and confront the guy? If he was on the fence about dropping you, a physical confrontation just upped the odds. In this case, are you hard enough to do the guy first and call it a day? You very well may be however, most people are not. Just seems like too many potential ramifications to take this action for property.

It's rare that a car is actually broken into unless something of value is in sight. Usually unlocked cars are "broken into" around here. Another good reason NOT to leave a garage door opener in a vehicle left outside.

Sad thing is that the guy will be back on the streets in no time doing what he does best.
