AD was told to thin out his Rolex display
I was chatting with my salesman at the AD the other day. He told me that Rolex made them remove a lot of the Rolexes in the display case. Rolex wants inventory to look smaller than it really is. The salespeople are mad because they have to walk back and forth to the safe constantly to bring out Rolexes for customers to look at, and it makes it harder for customers because they can't see what's really available.

How's that for psychological impact? If you see lots, they're not that big a deal. If you only see a few, they must be rare and expensive.

I have noticed that as well at the ADs I visited in KL. Did not have a lot displayed, but then told me they have most models in the back room. Then they would bring them out for me to see.
Remember, ADs are sales people. There job is too sell watches and make a profit for them and for Rolex. We only buy one or two Rolexes a year and most people only buy one Rolex in a lifetime. But the ADs sell a Rolex every day or more. While I was at one AD in KL, on a Monday evening, witnesses 3 Rolexes being boughtwithin an hour. 1 Solid gold lady datejust bought by an American Bussiness Lady (I should have given her my resume! LOL), one guy buying an Explorer II black face, and another guy buying a TT Datejust. |

A very cluttered display window can be a turn-off.
On the other hand, the LESS you see the more you crave....and want!!

Over here, they limit the numbers in the display for safety reasons. One AD only has the Rolex sign,no watches in the display, because they have been knocked a couple of times.Armed robbery.Once, the security guard was shot and killed ..

Nice country you live in, Chris. Why can't your cricketers be as aggressive on the field?

I'm sure they just want to give the impression of many unpurchased watches. Exclusivity breeds desire i presume is their line of thought. Supply and demand.

I would have to agree with rolex on this one. I have seen AD`s with so many watches they look like the chepo watch displays, watches lined up like the chinese army. I like a nice clean organized look. I side with the sales rep on the PIA going back and forth with so many tire kickers.

The AD's around here have a policy that only 1 Rolex can be shown to a customer at a time. If the customer wished to see another model, the AD must put the last watch back in the case before pulling out the other.
I don't know what the security is like at other AD's, but my AD has a security guard and 2 shatter proof doors, one with an electronic activated lock wherby, when you walk in from the street and open door number one, door number 2 is locked. Door number two will not unlock until door number closes and locks behind. Then it unlocks and you can walk in and right smack in front of you is an armed guard. In fact, it's not even a guard, it's a cop! The AD makes so much cash they hired the police. |

I don't need to see five GMT's but to have at least one of every model out would be nice.

Last year, local AD had an 'unpleasant' experience with armed thieves. After that, they limit Rolex display to 20-30 pieces; their safe has over 200.

Oh since few months I wasnt be able to see all of the Rolexes when I pass near the AD near my home now I understood the reason. I always see small models and just red faced GMT and Yacht-Master models and no blue TT =( But in Geneva they can not narrow it cause the decoration of watch stand is very big and they can not leave empty but instead of taking out to put the watch 2 meters far will make the watch look smaller, why they can not think about making decorations bigger and put the watches to more far places from window to be seen smaller.

He could always "thin out" his Rolexes by putting up a "25% OFF" sign!

My local AD has about 115 Rolex in his case at any one time. He is stocked full right now, though, as he has around 150. Two ss sub dates, two tt blue dial subs, all the yatchmaster watches, with the exception of the new one.
Funny thing is, just last week they got their first ever new GMT (TT Black dial) They never have daytona, or LV sub. The sales people don't know what a milguass is and tell me that just because rolex offers it doesn't mean they will sell it......!?!?!! Yes, my ad sucks, but they have a large display. Too bad most of it is Datejust and not sports line. |

This does not apply to the new clown master, Rolex wants everyone to see as many of those bad boys as possible. JJ sell the TT sub and get the clown master with the magic wish granting horse shoe you can't go wrong with this one! Trust me on this do it.

It's a poor joke at the new Yacht master II it has been called the clown master because it looks nothing like a Rolex. In the center of the dial the ten minute countdown looks like a horse shoe as first pointed out by JJ. Yes I know keep my day job.

The ADs in N.Z. are fortunate. They have J.J. to thin out their displays!
