Icon4 No Warranty on Rolex Serviced GMT ?

Looking at this watch listed on ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...ht_1049wt_1148

Seller has posted this description:

"You are bidding on a fabulous watch with sharp egdes, crisp lines mirror finished edges. This piece is the best on ebay in my opionion.
Hologram is still on back of watch
From the crisp edges to the polished serfaces, this piece is second to none.
$ back guaranteed if timepiece does not match description.
Model: Rolex Submariner GMT II Water-Resistant official Swiss Chronometer; Automatic Movement

Condition: Factory fresh refurbished case and band, Cleaned and oiled. #1 Codition. Never worn since refreshing

Style: R16710B30B7870

Serial: D934xxx

Bracelet: Authentic Rolex Stainless Steel

Dial: Original, Color Black

Bezel: Authentic Rolex Blue and Red

Includes: Inner and outter boxs, papers, booklets, tags, and packaging material"

Notwithstanding the seller's multiple grammatical errors, he claims the watch has just returned from a complete service via ROLEX but no warranty?

Is there ever a case where an RSC serviced watch does not come back from service with a 1 or 2 yr warranty?

Cheers,

Blaine

more to this than meets the eye

I am more concerned with the errors in his listing. The watch is a GMT yet the heading in the text area is " Rolex 40mm SubmarinerSerti Dial" and further down described as " Rolex Submariner GMT II".

Now he does have 10 other high end watches for sale, http://shop.ebay.com/dwgt5531/m.html...id=p4340.l2562 including three Rolex, and his photography skills appear excellent. Considering all this, his listing techniques can only be described as either sloppy or were made out of ignorance of the product and were cut and pasted from elsewhere and are scams.

He has NO previous selling feedback and now suddenly 10 watches worth around $28k; this is a little out of the ordinary.

seller id dwgt5531. He may be legit but I am going to dig around a little and see what turns up.....

Thanks for the replies, all... I'll send another ebay message and ask him if the service papers will be included with the sale and where the service was performed.

(Great points).

While you are at it , ask the seller for a couple more pictures and to put his username next to the watch . That will save Michael spending hours to try and source the pictures . What I expect he is doing at the moment .

Seller's message to me regarding the service papers and where serviced:

"Hi Blaine,
The piece was sent back to the retailer where it was purchased and they sent the watch to Rolex Factory to be servised. I believe the name is o.c. tanner in Salt Lake City, Ut.
Anyway, I didn’t keep the receipt. I didn't think that I would be selling it.
Again, rest assured this piece has remained pristine since the refurbishing. Pictures are of actuall timepiece.
Regards"

This guy is not far from me, and finding a pre owned Rolex in my area is difficult, all the jewelers I have talked to say they go very fast, which begs the question why is this guy selling them on Ebay?

Take a look at his feedback as a buyer. Looks like he bought some high price watches and maybe he is a flipper??

Could be, but most are a while ago, makes me think that it could be a hijacked account. No luck with the photos yet.

The format of the listings is inconsistent ie the way the GMT ad is listed, red underlined sub headings looks identical to this scam site http://www.ioffer.com/i/mens-ro-le-x...6710-198224164 and is different to other listings in his portfolio.

stay tuned.

I also did searches on his wording as well and there is very similar wording from the scam site iOffer.com - same as you.

I just reported him on being a suspect and the similarity between his listings and the scam site ioffer.com. See what eBay says.

Very much doubt they will react based on just that . Still believe the best route is to ask for more pictures with some sort of ID next to it .
It is known that Ebay sometimes asks seller to provide proof of ownership .

Seller said he would send to my email (which I provided) but no response.

Seller adds name "Dwight" to communications now.

Too many inconsistencies for me to be seriously interested.

Thanks for all the great, informative posts guys!

...mmmmmmmm...

...notwithstanding the possible listing screw-up, the listings look well supported and good pic's.

...and, the FB supports previous high end watch PURCHASES.

...gotta let the chips fall and see where they land....

...just for the record, we SHOULD follow the sales and look for FB from the buyers.

X2 , Not much that can be found to prove a scam is going on .
It would be a good idea to follow these closely .

We are Stan - and allegedly one has been sold with a simple "Thank you" left but no nonreciprocal feedback available because

"This member, watchtrader50, has decided to make their feedback comments private. "

Now he has eleven watches for sale again, including a red 1680 and he states in his listing "The close up of the dial shows the red lettering to be fuzzy. This is because of my camera; the watch is guaranteed to be one of the best one has ever experienced."

We'll see has this little lot goes.........

What is the seller's name? Is it just me or does the seller doesn't seem to know what he is selling?

This guy only ships to the US so I guess that is the reason why I am unable to ask him a question through ebay.

Is someone based in the US able to ask him for a picture to be posted in the ad of his GMT set to a particular time/date. As a buyer to a seller this is not an unreasonable request based on his feedback.

pls let us know his response.

The style of the pictures used in his listings are just too inconsistent to appear to have been taken by the same person and posted at the same time. They appear to be from a couple different sources. Usually when a seller has numerous for sale postings, all the pictures follow a consistent format. This fact, together with NO sales history and the $$ amount currently offered for sale causes me concern.

The scam, in cases such as these, usually comes NOW, after the auction ends without selling......now comes the eBay messages, and potentially the off eBay sale.....that is where the scam will manifest itself, if a scam is going to occur.....

One way to find out would be to contact the buyer, and inquire as to the status of the watch, and see where that goes.....

Re-listed!

Guess if you don't sell it, raise the price by $1,000+ over your highest bid.

Now, that's a winning strategy!

Strange that in most of his other and previous listings he offers perfect professional quality pictures . A RED SUB's value is in the original dial and the proper red letting ; many are white service dials painted over to try an fool the buyer in paying a premium .
Here we have real poor pictures .
As our friend Stan would say ... Hmmm .
