Seems like it's a reflection of how the world is these days.

Yeah, it has been. It's pretty disappointing if you ask me, TRF members haven't been handling themselves particularly well recently, especially towards new members. I'd hate to see us get a reputation

There indeed is one. A visit to such course is indicated by a 'banned' under the said user's id

I'm new around here- a few months, so I'm not sure how it used to be.

What I do notice though is when someone doesn't agree with a consensus or someone's opinion, that poster, at times, get piled upon. Most of the time they are opinions. And IMO () they , opinions, are never right or wrong.

So, let's try to keep on smiling, but feel free to express one's opinions.

Have to agree with the OP, not to sure why as I know forums change and evolve over time but of late there's a lot more anger being expressed in peoples replies....

to be fair though - there has been quite a few "trolls" and "ex-banned-newly-registered-members" came onto TRF and causing quite abit of problems lately...

just to give you an idea - last Friday, a couple of mods had to ban a member TWICE within a space of 10 minutes who had some "language" issues.

I have noticed a bit of "piling on" where one person criticizes a post and then others immediately join in. Sometimes it is almost like they do not really read the post or they seem to purposely misinterpret it. Then all their "buddies" jump in and things get unpleasant.

Certainly this is a great place to find out technical info on watches and a great place for research and to find watches for sale. However the "social" side of things seems that it has been taken over by some rather opinionated and at times, not too nice people.

Age old problem...well, since the written word has been around.

Hard to judge tone in email or in a quick post.

We have animated emoticons of pissing devils steaming turds etc. These help and hurt IMHO.

No quick solution I suppose...but there will alwas be heated threads and the like...

Part of it is that TRF has amassed such a great database of resource information on Rolex and horology, that there isn't much new to talk about watches. It's actually a tribute to how great TRF is.

It's a reflection on society these days. The great recession has taken it's toll on many people for a long period of time... They will start lashing out at those perceived to have caused the problem. There is real pain in society right now, and to ignore it would be a disservice.

People ought to check their personal feelings at the door when coming to TRF and talk about great watches with a great community.
