Looking to buy a 14060M - what to look for/included?
Looking to buy a new 14060M COSC, wondering what is included and what to look out for?
1. Serial number - i understand these are 'random', have seen ones with a G and Y or Z, does anyone know what the latest S/N range is, ones with a 'G' ? 2. Spacing between 1000ft = 300m, whats the norm, space or no space after '=' sign 3. What is the correct strap and link stamp code? 4. Clasp, should have finger indent, right? 5. Crown, triple with 3 raised dots under Rolex logo 6. Rehaut has S/N 7. Model and S/N between lugs - do AD's take the bracelet off if asked? 8. What's included with the watch as standard? (ie. S/N card, booklet etc..) does it come with any tools to remove bracelet and links? 9. Warranty period... - i assume its international? Did I miss anything? |

you say you are buying a new Rolex, are you planning on getting this from an AD? if you are you ready don't need to worry about all that stuff, what you could do is tell the AD you would like a non display watch, that has only been ordered in for you or they may have an unopenned one in the safe, buying from an AD is the best way to have piece of mind.

I'm glad that you decided to get one of the last of the classic Rolex watches..
Subs are favorites... Here is my perspective and a couple of bullets... . The latest serial numbers are completely random. However, G has been released along with the randoms and V is still in the mix too. I think it very likely that there may be M's still on the shelf as well. . All 14060M watches come with the 93150 bracelet and 501B end-links.. There is no "correct" code stamp although I think the latest may be RS. . No, the sales staff will not likely take the bracelet off a new watch so you "can-have-a-look", and there is no reason for you to ask.. . The rest of the stuff you ask are part of the watch.. Any new one from an AD will be pretty standard.. . I'm going to refrain from saying what's included as "standard" because there really isn't any such thing... The watch comes in a tiny plastic coffin with the red hang tag, and then the Dealer/Distributor adds everything else.. Look through all of it and decide for yourself it you think you have the stuff you want to see....

thanks guys.
hi Larry, thanks for the addition information. i really like the no-date 14060M, and agree its one of the last classic subs. i was hunting for a long time for mint 14060M non-COSC with a flat S but couldn't find one with complete papers and box. then i thought that it would be nice to buy new so i am the first owner. and as there are no NOS 14060 non COSC's around (that i could find) i have opted for the COSC version. i initially wasn't sure about the rehaut ROLEXROLEX.. but now think its a good feature as it has the S/N, which would be harder for fraudsters to copy/imitate. re serials, are you saying that there are M, V & G serials before they went totally random? what does "RS" standard for btw? (in your sentence above: "There is no "correct" code stamp although I think the latest may be RS.") |

The RS clasp code is generally accepted as being a 2010 clasp code stamp. You asked about "strap and link stamp code." Apparently you only meant the stamped part number --- there is this little date code there too.. While I'm on the soap box.. You say that you looked for a "mint 14060M non-COSC and flat S", but passed because it didn't have "complete papers and box". .... Generally when you are looking for a particular model, condition is paramount- papers take a back-seat, and for a modern reference, a box shouldn't even be on the plate... Passing by a mint watch with the features you want only gets more difficult over time.....

hunz, if you are buying from an AD, try to get them to throw in a transport case. The watches are shipped in a transport case to an AD so if you can work them to get you one it would be sweet to have. Also check the crystal to make sure there is no scratches. I bought a new 14060M last Oct and had to replace the crystal because there was a scratch which i didnt notice until i brought it to Rolex to break a chain.

That's right, the clear plastic case with styrofoam is the tranport case. I believe those cases go back to Rolex so they can be reused for the next time when Rolex ship watches to the AD. Very useful if you need to secure your watch for traveling.
The logo on the crystal is hard to locate unless you are using a loupe magnifier and at a certain angle, you wont see it. Just keep looking at the 6 oclock position. Quote:
