How many of you treat your rolex like a baby?

I have a gmt2c. I used to baby it all the time. taking care when i wear it, wiping it with soft cloth.

then came to a point that i wiped it down too much it has lost its shine.

then there came a point that it has become used for out of town trips

then there came a point that i just didnt care anymore and wore it all the time, swimming, showering, desk diving.

how many of you have had this progression?

I'm still at the wiping stage. But, ever since my SubC LV has developed a few scratches, I'm wearing it to more places and doing things with it that I wouldn't with the others... yet. I'm getting totally comfortable with iit. I guess it's a natural progression!

No, I beat the crap out of mine. Seriously, I don't care because it's a stainless steel freaking sports watch that is made for abuse. I find that no matter what I do, it always looks great and doesn't just fall apart like some people seem to think will happen. For me, that is one of the draws to Rolex. Just wear it and enjoy it people.

I wear my watches. However, I do take some basic precautions. For example I use a second mouse pad so that my watch rubs against the soft pad instead of the desk. I have developed a sixth sense where I put my arm back to protect the watch from little ol' ladies wielding their grocery carts.... same goes for thresholds. If I'm going to work on the car, or have to put on tire chains, I simply remove the watch. I clean the bracelet thoroughly in an ultrasonic cleaner twice a year. I use, but I do not abuse.

Exactly. I wear my watches but I don't expose them to unnecessary abuse. If I know I'm doing lawn work or manual labor that may cause damage, I simply take it off.

Perfectly stated... Anything I can do my Rolex can do right along with me. I do wipe it off at night and dont usually sleep with it but I am not overly careful

I wear it with care like how I take care of all my properties. I do not abuse it in anyway like some guys seem to suggest you should just because its made of stainless steel and reliable because its a Rolex.

I'm careful with my DD but not too concerned about my SS DJ for obvious reasons. The SS models can take the abuse and come out sparkling.

I like to keep my sub in nice condition and I definitely don't go out of my way to test it's ruggedness, but I also don't sweat the odd nick or scratch that inevitably happens from normal use. I use my Seamaster quartz for rough or dirty work duty and any sports, as it's really better suited for it than any mechanical watch, sub included.

I do not see any need to treat my GMTII like a baby to be honest.

It seems quite robust to me.

I do give it a polish with a microfibre cloth once a week or so though. But not to care for it, rather because it makes it look nice and shiny.

The only pieces I'm carefull with now-a-days are the vintage pieces I'm the original owner of. Back in the day I wore them as you would and professional watch.

Today because of the memories and the lack of support from RSC I take some care. They are now the domain of my private watchmaker.

Have to agree Mike its sad today that Rolex a brand steep in history has forgotten its heritage and no longer service some watches and movements etc.But regarding the original posters topic, after reading the thousands of post on TRF.Myself most times wonder why some buy Rolex watches, perhaps today just to wear the brand,as most Rolex today get a very very pampered life.Rolex watches in general were tool watches and made from the toughest materials on this planet. But today reading the many post on TRF today they might as well make them from glass.

OP: What the hell are you wiping it with that makes it not as shiny anymore? A microfiber cloth shouldn't do that by itself. Hell, washing it with soap and hot water everyday shouldn't do that!
