Buying from trusted seller on TRF (and other newbie questions)

Ok. I'm a newbie. But I've been studying these boards for the last month or so. I am planning to purchase a watch for myself and for my wife sometime in the next several months. A few basic questions:

1. If I buy from a TRF, how do I get the watch "sized" once it arrives in Texas. Is that something I can do myself? I presume that the answer is NOT to pop over to my AD and ask for their help on a sale that they did not make.

2. I want to surprise my wife for her birthday. Does anyone have a recommendation for a "good deal" seller who also accepts returns? I have seen that Alan Furman has a 10 day return policy. (Though I'd rather push my discount further than their standard prices posted on web).

3. If I do buy from TRF, and I wire money as seems to be the standard practice, what is the *right* safeguard to know you haven't just given money away on a scam. I suppose the primary answer is "trusted seller." But are there other steps I am not seeing?

Well, I would guess the "trusted sellers" have to chime in on this one.

Welcome to the forum!

If you know your wrist size some of the sellers on the forum can size it to fit you correctly. If not a Rolex AD would probably do it for you for free or charge a small amount even though they did not sell you the watch.

Most sellers on the forum post in their thread if they have a return policy if not you just have to ask them what it is.

I have bought 3 watches from TRF. Two from trusted sellers and one from just a member selling. In every case I wired the money and then the watches showed up. I have no problem wiring the money to a trusted seller. But even the others guys can be trusted if you do your due diligence.

Other than get a real email address, phone # and street address via wiring instructions, there is not much else you can do.

Let's face it...there is risk even with the most trusted seller. I mean, the guy could get hit by a bus taking your watch to UPS, right?

I have purchased without incidence from a couple top sellers here...it's a leap of faith at first, but I'm glad I did what I did.

Welcome, as already stated some Ad's will size the watch for free and some will charge a nominal fee. There are some really good trusted sellers here on the Forum and if you are still concerned see what deal you can work out with the Ad's in your area!!!

I have had watches resized at my local jewelry store in the past, but lately, I've bought a few rudimentary tools and have been doing it myself. It's worth learning how to do if you intend to purchase Rolexes in the future. The best way in "insure" a successful transaction is to purchase from someone here who has proven to be a reliable and trustworthy seller. Those people are easy to find here. Their livelihoods depend on the satisfaction of their customers, and I've purchased five watches from sellers here without any problems. (This after trying to do a trade with someone who turned out to be a scammer.)

Sizing bracelet has always been DIY type of deal for me ... for most Rolex watches it simply means the only skill required is ability to unscrew little screws

Agreed. It is a really easy process to size the watches yourself. I have done it for all the watches I have bought.
