I've been offered a beautiful 1979 5513 Submariner with it's box and stamped warranty papers in return for a trade with my 2009 Deepsea. I've been really pondering over this over the past week because I've always wanted a vintage Rolex.

Now, as much as I love my Deepsea, I just don't find enough wrist time for it but when I do wear it, I love it. It's so much more comfortable to wear than my Sub's and the new style clasp is amazing to use. Plus, I do like the new blue lume.

However, the 5513 is in great condition, maybe not the best but the lugs are thick (polished a little), the tritium has a creamy patina to it and it's original braclet is in fantastic condition.

Anyway, Would you say this is a good trade or should I just stick with my Deepsea?

Trade it. There are alot of deep sea and less and less 5513.
If you change your mind you can always sell it.

I love 'modern' so would stick with the DS!!

I would suggest selling the Sea Dweller and purchasing the 5513. The value of the Sea Dweller in the pre-owned market is higher than a 5513 (in my opinion).

Yes, I would. Vintage watches in good working condition are rare to find and afford. You can always buy another Deepsea since they are still in production whereas the 5513 is not.

I traded-in my Deepsea for a Red Sub Date 1680. I have no regrets.

Keep the DSSD...once you have been spoiled by the Glidelock, there really is no substitute.

yes the glide lock is nice but I personally can not stand the deep sea - too heavy and too thick and 42mm is about the biggest I can stand in a watch

A good 5513 is a MUST to have but beware of the condition.

Here is mine, a 1983 example, in perfect condition to get an idea.

Not sure that's a square trade, but I'd sell the DSSD to buy a 5513 any day of week.

I agree BUT....

Only if the 5513 is damn near PERFECT

Thick Lugs and Crown Guards
Nice Dial
Matching Tritium Hands with NO corrosion on the hands etc....

Otherwise, do something else

Myself am not a fan of vintage watches - even though they look fantastic, I'd be too afraid of wearing them as daily beaters out of fear of damaging them.

I would not personally own a Deepsea, it's just too heavy for my taste. I also wore a 5513 for 34 years, so it has a special place in my heart.

If the quality is there, then yes! Every modern watch is the same - go vintage for some character and history :)

The 5513 is a fantastic watch - classic obtainable sub. Mine from 1973 says hi!
