Just played with new SS GMT II

Hi Friends

Well the new SS GMT II has landed in New Zealand.

I went to my AD and played with it today. List price is $10k NZ.

Positives:

1. Great bracelet and clasp

2. Nice case, not thick, just right

3. Triplock crown

4. I like the Chapter Ring inscription

5. A new security feature: just like the rolex hologram on the back, now the side has a very smaall microchip sticker. Didnt quite know what it was, but looked cool.

Negatives

1. The Price

2. The bezel is very woody and plasticky in feel when you turn it, not anywhere near the resound "click" of metal on say the sub etc.

3. The numbering on/in the bezel is "Milky White", not white gold. This is a major negative factor. Looks like someone drew in the numbers with liquid whiteout marker.

4. The milky white numbering on the bezel is a bit too stand outish when i put it on with my suit.

I have not been able to come to a conclusion on it. Im on the fence. Maybe its so new in terms of ss design, that it will take a few months to grow on me. Right now im comparing to the current line, in a few years they will all look like this, so it will be the norm and i wouldnt know any better.

But the price I think is pretty high n not appropriate
n also listening the milky white numerals is would not be my taste but nothing could be said untill seen in flesh

WOW!! Price is really high compared to what JJ normally pays for his Rollies. I wonder what it will retail for here in the States. If it's going to cost more than a SS sub I may back out. 10,000New Zealand dollars is about US$7200. That will be too much for me to swing I'm afraid.

Its pretty sure infact I'm sure that the cost would be definitely higher than the SS Sub. IMO in US it would be around US$6000.

It could cost as much as a TT Sub (discounted of course) initially due to demand

Thank you.. Yes I am positive. $5950.. I will get one in early july or late June from my AD. I think the new SS GMTII will be very nice. I saw the new clasp design, it feels much sturdier, richer and well made. Add that the triplock crown, the new bezel, maxi dial and improved movement, though pricey it will be worth it IMHO..

Yes, my friend Don (sub2004) also lives in Auckland with me and he's talking about Mansor's, our regular AD who has managed to get in one SS GMT-II.

The exact List Price is NZ$9975 = US$7300 (approx). Not sure what discounts can be available initially, but it is far too expensive at the moment.

Being new, I don't think the AD will discount any....so we just have to wait and see.

JJ

Thanks, J.J. for the pics.

Any plans for the two-colored face?

I like the green sweep hand.

Should I wait to buy the new one?
Or buy the old one with black/red face?

Got a vintage in blue/red.

If you can still get a good deal on the current GMT-II, go for it!!

I went to the local AD today to see the new GMT and it was gone before I got there, sold yesterday. Oh well, I wasn't going to hand over AUD$8790 for it at this stage anyway. They only got 1 and it seems like it didn't even last the day in the shop.

The "Milky" white numerals on the bezel should not look like white gold, they`re Platinum! Applied by PVD. Particle/Physical Vapor Deposition. The numeral recesses are bombarded with molecules of platinum which in effect crash into the ceramic and bond with it.
I love the look of this watch and can`t wait to get mine, should be just a few weeks now!

A previous poster wrote that he thought it looked like someone had appplied Liquid Paper to the numerals! I think, like any other watch, I'll need to see this one in the flesh to make my opinion.......

Go to the head of the Class, Ironstark! Can't wait to get mine! It has become quite evident that the newest design changes (in this specific model) reflect, in part, the trend that these new GMT design cues will become replacement mainstay changes within this sport line. Frankly, I am all for the more improved clasp, heftier lugs and bezel, improved movement, solid links, etc., etc. Pricing is still an issue being that this model has only just been released, and, AD's will be reticent to discount.
