steve
this is the other post (another forum) that steve is reffering to:

" and now the truth guys...
I bought this watch with the help of a reknowed greek collector.
There are very limited pieces that came to greece and will be sold only to special customers like him. At first I did not want to buy it because I could not afford it. My SS sub costed me only 2500 euros and is 1 year old with box and papers, D series mint condition. Do you think that this new watch worths more than double of what I paid for my sub??? I don't think so. Anyways, me and my friend bought two GMTs and the deal is that if I don't want it after a week he will buy it from me at the same price. Something that is very likely to happen. I am sure I could buy it so much cheaper in a year from now. Plus with 5500 euros I could buy a TT blue sub BNIB Z series plus 20 bottles of expensive wine..for me this is a much better deal! "

Hi guys. First impressions:
Having owned SS sub date, LV, TT blue sub, TT date just, and SD in the past, I must say that the new GMT is a big change in the traditional rolex line. The bezel is just so wierd looking and the numbers on it too big. I LOVE the case. The watch sits perfectly on the wrist and I am almost sure that it will attract people that are devoted to other brands such as panerai and IWC.
I actually think that this is the main reason that Rolex changed the case of the gmt. It looks much bigger than 40mm, I don't know why. Solid, thick, perfect. The new crown is also excellent. The green accent is just stupid, no reason to change the traditional red gmt hand. The polished links are out of the way and make it look like a yachtmaster. Maxi dial is fine. I would love this watch if the bezel writing was smaller, the bracelet brushed and the gmt hand red.
In sum I don't think it worths the extra money. A year from now we will be able to get it with a big discount. I hope they will make the 2008 subs with that case without touching anything else except maybe for the dial.
More to come later

That is a gorgeous watch but you are right it's worth waiting a half year to full year and get a discount!

So now we have seen real world photos (ie not studio) what is the verdict on the new GMT II? I am first on the waiting list with my AD but can't help but be torn between the old and the new!

What do you guys think?

Congrats!! Looks MUCH better on the wrist than in the promo pictures, etc. that I've seen, but the features that I dislike are still there. Maxi dial, large numbers on a ceramic bezel, and that green GMT hand. That being said, I'm much less bothered by the polished center link than I thought I would be. It doesn't appear over the top at all.

Congrats on getting your new Rolex! Very nice, and wear it in good health!

I was interested in the comment about the ceramic bezel feeling "wooden". I'll be interested to see how the ceramic fares in very cold weather. Personally I find the size and boldness of the bezel font a tad overwhelming, but I rather like the maxi dial and overall its an impressive looking beast.

Very best wishes,

Chris

Mic - First of all, congratulations, the watch is really beautiful.

I cannot help thinking though that it is not terribly original, but seems to be mostly a putting together of features from other Rolex models.. I would like to see something new and different in a pure, simple, classic look. Don't ask me what - their business is to be at least somewhat innovative. Let's see them come up with an innovation or two, not just a repeat of the same old things they have been doing for decades... JMO. Larry

Congratulations, what a beauty!!! I wish the bracelet was all brushed and not polished in the center like that. Can't wait to see one in the flesh.
