DATE...Do you actually "need" it?
As a fan of "non-date" watches, I'm just wondering....Do you really feel that you "need" the date function on a watch? I really prefer the clean and symmetrical look of a watch dial without, and it's reflected in my choices of Rolex watches..the Explorer and the Sub.
I mean, I wake up in the morning, glance at the calendar, the date on the computer, and then I'm pretty sure that it's gonna be that same date aaaalll day, until tomorrow comes. Do you really feel that you "need" that date there, or is it just a "feature"? I'm asking this mainly because here in Hong Kong, people really regard the date feature as a "value" and if you ask to look at a watch without, or show your non-date watch to someone, they'll invariably ask: "Why do you like that one?....It's got no date?" (Makes for some good pricing though! ) |

Then why arent you "time dependent" wearing a watch. There are other places you could look for time

I am on the fence on this issue. I do enjoy having the date on my watch and I like the cyclops on the Rolex. When I wear the Daytona I glance at it from habit and realize that there is no date. It varies with the watch.

I really do enjoy the clean symmetrical look of the no date models. For me I like them both, as long as they are vintage

I need the date. If I didn't need to set the date on a watch I haven't worn in 10 days, what would I do first thing in the morning. I do love the date on my watch, I only have one that doesn't have a date and I kind of miss it when I wear that one.

Don't have the cellphone on/on me very often either. Call me nuts, but I think they're dangerous to your health. I set apointments in advance and check for messages 3 times a day. My watch tells me the time %99.9 of the time. I just find that looking at the date once a day in the morning is enough. I'm pretty sure it'll be the 28th of April until tomorrow.

As to the OP's question, I do need it, and miss it since I switched to a non date watch, but I love the clean crystal. I love the cyclops...and dislike it too. Real dilemma, but it makes me think Sea Dweller....

I also need the date feature on my watch. Sure, I'm quite sure I could manage through the day without it, but my 16610 is a LUXURY item in my world. As such I choose to have the date feature so I can enjoy my watch to its fullest while at the same time using it to 'help' me.
It's all about choices: if you don't need or like watches with a date feature - don't buy them.

I love the simple clean lines of ND subs, and the Explorer. But then I also have a 1603 which has given to me which has a date and bubble, which I love - mostly for its overall classic design - pie pan dial, SS engine-turned bezel and jubilee bracelet. With the subs they are so busy already that for me at least the date complication is not needed as it complicates the design and look. And I have to reset is every short month etc, etc. With the ND's you just set and go. Only time you have to reset the hour hand is day light saving.. |

Yes
I had a 14060M and sold it b/c the lack of date really got to me. I'd look at my wrist and there was no date, so I'd have to find a calendar or look on my cell phone. Frankly, if I am going to drop this kind of money on a watch, I better not have to look at my cell phone to find the date.
And, yes, I am a rolex lover who appreciates the simplicity and history of the Sub no date... I just think it is impractical.
