Nope! Better to keep it stock so it can be polished if you want. Any coating is just another thing to fall off.

I wouldn't do it myself as it severely limits service choices - Rolex won't touch it if you make major modifications

Great article w/Video on this forum in the watchtech section. As others have said, even though the Daytona looks great with it IMO, it now limits your service options. Also it is noteable the watch-tech doing the work has a SS non-coated watch he is wearing in the video LOL

Not a fan at all but if you like the look do a quick search. There have been a few threads about different companies that do a PVD coating. It is your watch so do whatever you want that will make you happy! Remember Rolex will not service the watch though.

Only logical if you want to destroy your warranty, and have a watch that Rolex themselves would not service. And after would have quite a very small resale market if you ever wanted to sell it.

If you like it then do it as it is your watch.
There are plenty of options for service beyond the Rolex service center if you have problems so do not let that stop you if you really want to do it. A couple here have had it done, I say if you are going to do it get a Red Yachtmaster second hand thrown on there as well like another member did, it looked GREAT with the PVD case

Buy a second hand rolex with no papers, which will be cheap and PVD the hell out of it I say.

I was thinking about painting my '98 Fatboy neon pink!. Then again maybe not.
Seriously, if that's what you want to do to your Rolex, it's your money.

I like the idea...just because I think it looks cool. But I'd NEVER do it.
The one thing people seem to fail to mention/realize is that the PVD will scratch and look like crap after wearing it for only a short period of time.

Ι was always saying that it looks nice, but i wouldn't buy it for me...
Anyway after several circumstances last summer i came up with a daytona black pro hunter... I wear it almost every day, i have hit it several times and nothing happened! it looks like new! Except that you can always restore to its original look if you get bored with it. If you like it go for it... it is rare... The only thing is that it is not so recognizable as a rolex to the untrained eye, but everyone who knows will be impressed! |

I love the look of it but would also not do it for the servicing aspect alone

Wouldn't do it - if the idea is that you want extra protection for your watch. I don't see any value besides the black color. Every PVD / DLC coated watch I've seen has NOT held up to abuse any better than if it were not coated.
If you scrape your PVD watch on a rock, your SS will still get scratched. If anything it would protect it against the minor wears (buttons, shirt cuffs, etc.). But if you like the black... it's your only option. |

Friends don't let friends do PVD.*
*Although I do think it looks pretty cool. Just not for me as I don't want to alter my Rolex. |

I wouldn't PVD my rolex, but I am definitely warming up to the look, which I think is very striking. I would consider getting a (non-Rolex) watch that came with a PVD coating, one day.
