Which watch to wear with Navy dress uniform?

Going out to dinner in Dress Whites (this is the "choker" uniform made popular in "Officer and a Gentleman").

It is Fleet Week here in the City, and Memorial Day Weekend. I want to display the cloth of our nation (Navy uniform, as I once heard it rather poetically framed) to its best advantage.

If I am not too wrong, "Dress White" is the chokers with ribbons, "Dinner Dress Whites" are same with mini ribbons and gloves, and "Full Dress Whites" are large medals, gloves and sword. "Dinner" Dress uniforms are the military equivalent of the DJ.

Anyhow, of my two watches, which is more appropriate?

1) Blue DJ
2) Sub 5513

Thanks for any suggestions, and happy Memorial Day to my fellow vets, allies included!

Well going strictly to the Wis rules, suppose the DJ would be classed as the most dress watch. But as long as sub fitted under cuff or shirt the 5513 Sub would be my personal choice, but again do you need to wear a watch.

Personally, I think the 5513 just belongs with USN dress whites.

When I was still on active duty I always wore my DJ for formal occasions (i.e., chokers or SDB). It's a matter of preference. Are you still on active duty?

No, I'm in the IRR. I work at a hedge fund, which is somewhat similar to, say, Flag Plot!

I see that I mixed my references in the OP.

First "DJ" meant "dinner jacket..."

Second was the reference to the watch.

That must have been confusing.

Think I'll go with the Sub...not that it will be easily visible!

I was referring to Date Just (DJ) in my previous post.

I definitely understood you, Shipmate!

Now I can't remember if ALLCOPY means "I understood everything you said," or if it was COPY ALL. :(

I'd say the Sub - it's consistent with the naval theme.

Franz,
That gold Chopard is absolutely breathtaking!
You must feel like total elegance whenever you wear it.
You do wear it?

I wish this could be true. As this wasn’t posted in a ‘scan day’ thread, I can get away with the fact that I don’t own that work of art. It’s beyond my means. And please, don’t use the German spelling of my name. It’s Frans, with an S.

Tough call, I feel both watches are appropriate. Considering the uniform and the event, I would go DJ. It's understated and elegant and the blue face is certainly reminiscent of a nautical theme. Either way you can't go wrong. Those Navy whites sure do remind me of my dad. Have fun!

None of the two!

If you want to go "Navy Dress Uniform", there is only ONE watch to wear:

The Yachtmaster II..............of course!

Just to be sure: You ARE going to a carnival, aren't ya??

I'd go with the Submariner. My GMT goes great with my dress blues! Love the look of the sport watches.

I have never been in the Navy or the armed services, and not knowing any of their traditions but just thinking of this as a civilian, I would heartily recommend the Submariner. Why?

1. Classic styling as the "dive" watch.
2. Easily recoginized as a dive and by extension a Navy watch.
3. Rolex Submariner says you are always vigilient and working but is very well (and ruggedly) styled.

If you were in the Air Force, I would say go Breitling. Navy, to me there is really only one choice.

What is your definition of a "real" officer? And what is your point?
