Looking for some advice..
I am one of the few people I guess that can wear 45, 44, 41 and 36 mm watches day in and day out with no problem switching around.
I wear the DJ about three days a week or so and really like it. But I am thinking of switching dials on it. I love the Rhodium dial and the Romans but I am wondering about switching to a dial/hand set with some lume. I have terrible eyesight and wear a watch through the night. I do have sport watches and use the SeMP as the night/beater watch. But I like the comfort of the DJ and sometimes just want to wear it instead of switching. What do you guys think and what are some of your favorite dial combos on SS DJ with the old case? Here's mine. Any input is appreciated.

That is such a beautiful dial, Daren....frankly, I wouldn't like to touch it.
But then the DJ was never ever "hot" on lume. Some of the newer ones do have dials with stick markers and some amazing lume. Other new ones have the similar Lumeless dial like the one you've got. Tough choice, man. Just go to your AD and ask him to show you the special large AD catlogue which lists several dials for this model DJ....and then go with the one you think would have the maximum lume. Good luck - JJ PS: Now get to bed, tosser!

Daren,
I have that exact watch, with an oyster braclet. I love the Rhodium dial in the sunlight, but have been thinking about a re-dial too. I also have commented to my wife about wanting to tell time after dark. I have looked at the new black dial, w/stick markers. The entire stick marker is "lumed", unlike the older black dials that just had a dot of lume. Here in the US, Rolex may not even make the switch. The black dial that I like is only offered on the new style DJ. I will be interested to see what you decide. |

Daren, I would do it in a heartbeat. I require a watch with lume. I would just get a silver dial with sticks.

Try THIS link:
http://www.ashleys.de/de/rolex_configurator.html I like the dial bottom left! And it has hour markers that are luminous. If you point with your mouse at the dial, the watch switches to the dial you are pointing at

I hate to say I told you so, but ..............
Seriously, bro the white stick dial would look great with that watch and would give you plenty of lume while keeping the dressy look

Well Darren IMO leave it alone as it is as it was made, you have other watches if lume is important. Now myself have never been a fan of stick hands, now say a set of hands like say the yachtmaster with the red second hand IMO would be a improvement.

You could alway transform
into this! Then you would have lume and a bit more flash!

I am more inclined for keeping the present dial. Sticks are nice but never to be sought just for the lume. If lume is very much needed, a digital watch will be nice. Else Luminox and Trasers will be excellent choices.

I have good eyesight and I cannot see the lume after a few hours, so unless you can find some tritium; you'll need that flashlight to recharge the lume in the middle of the night.
Put a digital by the bed with those glowing 2 inch high numbers and leave that excellent roman example alone. my .02c |

I'm with Padi on this one: leave the dial alone but swap out the hands for the YM fat versions. Red Second hand if you're feeling devilish. I'm thinking about fat hands for my GMT ll, but no Red Second.

I like this dial.

Daren, there are very few DJ dials that provide very much lume at all, and the older it gets, the less there is of it.
Your Datejust is beautiful just as it is. It is MHO that since you will not be gaining very much in the way of lume if you change the dial, I would keep yours as it is and use other watches for their lume properties.

I wouldn't change it Daren. That is an awesome dial.
I normally spare my DJ on formal occassions and not used at night as my tritium dial has minimal lume and the hands no longer have any. I'm keeping my DJ as original as possible as I've learned my lessons on my first Rolex the 14060. It had the tritium T<25 dial and I butchered it to have the swiss made dial. Never again.

I just spent enough to buy a used DJ with most any dial on this puppy nursing her back to health. So, for you I will keep the dial, at least for now.

My old DJ (1601) is not original and I have no idea of how it looked when it rolled out of Rolex in the '70s. It has no lume on the dial only a little on the hands - the lume lasts about three minutes.
Hey Bo Bo - great link thank you very much.

If you want lume: 1. strap on one of those gorgeous pannies you have, one marker in a panerai has more lume then all the markers in a rollie but together... 2. Buy a $3 glow watch at walmart 3. Alarm clock If nothing else, think of the puppy,... damn he is cute |

At least for the time being, I am going to leave it as is. I do have a new watch due in anyday so that one will have plenty of lume for me.
