Well the new Explorer II will cost nearly as much as a SubC so I would not consider it a poor man's watch!

Absolutely it is a credible watch. But it really doesn't matter what anyone else thinks about it, does it? Buy it because YOU like it. :-)

I don't think I've ever read anyone on these forums refer to any Rolex as the poor man's model.
I've read the odd person refer to the Air King as 'entry level' because it's one of the least expensive and smaller size, however there is still alot of love and respect for it. As for the Explorer or Explorer II (not sure which one you mean), both are great watches. Explorer is a beautiful and classic watch. The Explorer II is the perfect example of a solid tool watch. I hope to own both one day. |

Explorer II 42mm model is going to cost an arm and a leg, maybe throw in a few kidneys in the mix for a poor person

I'm not sure that the new 42mm version doesn't loose a few of it's tool watch credentials...
Difficult to say without seeing it but I'd say they've made it bigger purely to follow fashion rather for any practical purpose. When I'm climbing, less is more.

Is the bezel on the exp changeable by rolex
Or is it fixed. And in order to swap the bezel you will need a new case |

Exp2 will be a great/respectable time piece no matter how you look at it... go for it.
Does anyone know if Rolex will discontinue the current EXP2 models? |

The Explorer is a Rolex, there is no poor mans Rolex, whatever model you wear from the Airking to the diamond encrusted DD or Daytonas, they are all good. I wish they had put the beefier Triplock winding crown on the Explorer II though.

I can understand the saying of "poor man's Rolex".....
There is a reason why Rolex makes and offers so many different combos to suit everyone's taste and budget. IMO - a poor man's Rolex is simply a more affordable Rolex. |

C'mon... A poor mans Rolex is an Omega........
the Explorer II has never been in that category.... It holds value better and retails for more than the extremely popular Datejust SS models seen in every boardroom and on top management around the world... The new Explorer II 42 should prove to be even more popular..

However, you may be a Mod, but I suspect you're gonna get flamed for that one!
