Sea-Dweller Time Lapse

I was a little bored tonight..so what's a guy to do with an iPhone and a Sea-Dweller? That's right. Time lapse photography! I'm working with limited resources...so I never really got the lighting just right...but hey...it's worth every penny you've paid to watch!

I could't make up my mind on which was best...so I posted three. They are each only 40 seconds long and comprised of a pic taken every 1/2 second for 10 minutes (1200 frames).

I guess I'd rather it run fast than slow! I was thinking it may still be within -4 +6 specs....in minutes of course...but I think it broke that rule as well.

Yeah...I didn't realize how reflective that bezel was going to be until I watched them. Once I realized the tv was reflecting, I turned it off (hotel rooms are small ;). But then I noticed hat even just walking over to check on it shows reflection on my skin tone in the bezel...I can't win!

Interestingly...it varies..only by a few seconds though...but I did three and the change happened at the following times:

1. 23:59:59
2. 00:00:10
3. 23:59:56

I assume that it is because of how things are re-engaged after adjusting the time...I assume the more precision I use in aligning the minute hand with the exact top spot of the second hand, the more precise the date change will be. Not sure...but I just assumed it would always be the same. I was incorrect.

#2 was my favorite. Something about the angle of the watch face was more pleasing to me.

It would be very cool to see the same thing with a fully charged lume (which you can even charge from your iPhone), then cut the lights and show the hands spinning and the lume fading.

Funny, you mention this...I did it. I thought it would be really cool, too. The problem is the iphone's low light capability (ie dark) combined with the lume fade over time, combined with the speed up action of the time lapse photography.

When I first lit it up (with a high power flashlight), the lume was so bright that the phone was getting confused grabbing focus as the second hand swept around...then it settled down and held focus, but as it faded, combined with time lapse..it went dark on the video pretty quick. I could see it with my eyes great...but my eyes adjust to the darkness over time, so the lume fade was countered. The iPhone doesnt adjust, so the fade was more exaggerated. I honestly decided not to post the video because I didn't want it to look like Rolex had crappy lume... :) I just doesn't serve time-lapse video work in the dark with an iphone very well.

Sorry bewithabob...I was just playing. I like your idea...and I do enjoy time lapse scenery...so your request will likely be real this summer. For now..it's rainy and cold outside...so this was all I could get you on short notice.

CPO, I liked the low light one with the lume. Thanks for posting. I went back and looked at #2 again and i really liked the way the reflection of the seconds hand, in the rehout looked like it was scratching a trail of sparks.

How do you do the time lapse shots with the iPhone?

Thanks. I have several time lapse apps, but my new favorite (and the one I used for these) is called Motion Pics. It allows you to establish frequency, length, etc and it automatically builds the movie for you. Best of all...it's free. I wish I could control focus and white balance but right now it is all auto.

Here's another one. I thought it would be fun to capture some desk diving activity. You can see here how I use a sticker to prevent metal-on-metal when working with my MacBook Pro.

Thanks for your effort and for thinking to post these, but one wonders if you realized having a firearm in one of the videos is against the site rules. Just checking.

Seriously? Deliberately and defiant? Huh. I thought it would be a cool scene. What do you suppose I have to gain from this? Intimidation? Here's how much it matters to me...lets take the link out. I would do it, but I can't seem to edit that older post. Not sure why, but I'll keep trying.

I don't want to offend anyone with what I thought was creativity. Fwiw...I have just as many pictures of firearms as I do watches. I guess I'll have to research the rules...I would have never guessed there would be such an issue...
