Wow, what do you know, neither can I Johnny. Weird, must be some glitch in the system. Surely I would not get banned from a place where I did nothing other than stop posting? Would I? Does that really happen?

I don't know about the rest of you bumblef**ks, but I was able to access the site. I did have to get a new activation number, but that was no big deal. However, here is the entire message about the challange:

WHAT IS THE ROLEX PHOTO CHALLENGE INVITATIONAL?

The event is designed to be the ultimate photo contest for the top Rolex watch photographers on the Net.

WHO HAS BEEN INVITED TO COMPETE IN THIS EVENT?

Jocke - owner of www.watchwallpapers.com

Hannes - Owner of www.oysterworld.de

Michael Prünner - Co-Moderator of www.r-l-x.de (The German Rolex Forum).

John B. Holbrook, II - owner of www.rolexreferencepage.com.

WHO ARE THE JUDGES FOR THE EVENT?

IanS - Ian is the moderator of the Photography Forum on The Purists watch forum.

Ming - Renown watch photographer and owner of www.ming-group.com.

Warren "Wetowne" - Former Administrator of The WTF Watch Photography Forum.

WHAT ARE THE RULES?

Each competitor will be asked to submit one photograph in each of the following categories. Each photo should be approximately 1024x768 in size. No one will be disqualified if their photo isn't perfectly 1024x768, but a competitor could be asked to resubmit their photo if it varies significantly from this size.

Competitors must submit their photos on Friday, Sept. 30th, 2005 no later than 5pm EST.

Here are the categories:

1. Catalog shot - your basic watch catalog photo showing nothing but the watch and the background.

2. Prop shot - In addition to the watch, each photo should use some non-watch subject matter. Composition and creativity will be judged strongly in this category.

3. Photoshop Challenge - Competitors have free reign in this category to use Photoshop any way they please. Photos will not be judged solely on the complexity of Photoshop techniques used, but rather how successfully and creatively Photoshop is used to create a photograph.

4. Open category - Must be Rolex related, and normal Photoshop restrictions apply - otherwise, no other restrictions or guidelines.

5. New For Contest - Each competitor must create a brand new, never shown photograph for use in the contest, for this category. NOTE: This is the only category with this restriction. The same restrictions as the Open Category shot apply.

All the categories except the Photoshop Challenge shot will require somewhat minimal use of Photoshop - only color correction, sharpening, curves, healing brush etc. No layers, light filters, Photoshop generated text, etc. The Photoshop Challenge category will let competitors cut loose with Photoshop.

Competitors will be allowed to use existing photos for every category except the "New For Contest" category.

The judges will be given up to a week to post their evaluations. Each judges will rank each photo in each category 1, 2, 3, or 4 (1 being the best score). The scores will be then tallied, and the one with the lowest overall score wins the overall event.

Judges are asked to submit their scores for all categories no later than Friday, October 7, 2005, 5pm EST.

Each judge will be asked to post their rationale for awarding the scores for each category. "Jocke had better composition in the Props category shot, so I gave him a 1."

In the unlikely event of a tie in the score tally, each judge will be asked to vote for an overall winner - the competitor with the most votes wins. If that doesn't work, I guess we flip a coin....

WTF will be sponsoring a trophy which will be mailed to the winning competitor.

GOOD LUCK TO THE COMPETITORS!!!!

Talk about a fixed contest. Sheesh, what will that guy think of next.

Did you just use that guy and think in the same sentence? Ed, there is minimal.......wait, the golden rule, I almost forgot.....restraint.........must show restraint....... ............. I would like to wish all the participants good luck.

I vote for Jocke and I can't even see the page.

C'mon guys...

Be nice!

The truth is that I have never seen more awesome Rolex pictures in one place!
Wether or not you like the man... that's not my business.
But give credit where credit is due. And he deserves credit when it comes to photography.

And yes... Jocke won.
In reality, there wasn't a single bad entry.

But c'mon, let me take you for example Chip. You are outstanding!! See my reply to your post on the watch gallery, I mean what I say. You don't have to solicit my thoughts, they come to you. You don't need me to stroke you and tell you everyday how creative and good you are, you know. You post your pics because you enjoy the work you put into them and like to share it. To me that is fun to look at, that is why I open every single one of your pic posts.

I have always liked his pics, very good quality. But the fact remains, he wants some ficticious title that he can't win. That is why the whole thing is comical to me. Even if he won, or Jocke or whomever, it really didn't matter. If a person is good, more power to them, if their ego is sooooo large that it needs to be stroked, get a life. You know where I stand on which category certain people are in. Jocke posts pics for the same reason you do, you both enjoy sharing your work, not to be king of some damn mountain!!!!!

RANT MODE OFF.

Quite an elite group of photographers and Rolex enthusiasts there, the who's who of .... wait a second... what is THAT guy doing there? Someone call security, a vagrant snuck onto the green and he's putting!!!

Granted, though, he does take damn good pics, credit where credit is due.

Guys, a lot of us here are also members of WTF and so all these negative posts puts us all in a difficult situation. Whatever you may think about a person and his / her shortcomings, i do not feel that these views are appropriately voiced on a watch forum.
Unfortunately there is a lot of politics in the watch world too.. but i am only here to enjoy the company of old friends.. not too hear people posting negative posts about each other. Can we please move on to the watches?
all the best

Mamas, as you usual you are a voice of reason and clarity. I do not want to put any of you guys, who I consider friends in a bad situation. If we waste time on that, we are falling back into a pattern (about a certain other site) that we don't want to be in.

Thanks Mamas for the well thought out post.

I agree in theory, but until you've been treated like shite by a forum moderator and banned for no reason, it's pretty easy to make a post like that, mamas - and I do consider you a friend, so I'm not being a boob here.

Like Daren, I don't want to put any of my friends in an awkward position, but from an administrative point of view, given the bad blood among certain fora... perhaps it would be good to have a policy here to not link to other watch fora. That would nip any negative posts in the bud.

Other places do it, and I would imagine for this very reason.

Sounds like a good idea John!!

And hey I was banned from two places for being friends with people, that is what I call ABSURD.

Oh well, I still have my friends, pride and this great place to hang out at.

My apologies...

Guys,

I think I need to apologise to all of you for even being stupid enough to start up this thread.

Of course, as you all may have understood by now, I did it only on the request of JBH; but if I'd known how much animosity, ill-feeling and negativity would spring up from my post, I would never have even typed the first letter.

Let's forget the whole thing and just go back to being our old selves please.

Thanks all,

JJ

JJ, I'm sure you meant no malice by it, but if a stranger asks you to do a favour for him, he usually has an ulterior motive.

We still love you, ya big dope!

(I hope no one thinks I'm being insulting here, lol)

Innacurate, if not insulting.

There was no ulterior motive, as you alude to. I assumed that 1)members of a forum called "The Rolex Forums" might like to see some fantastic photos of Rolex watches, and 2)That even though the photos resided on WATCH TALK FORUMS, that those that have a problem with me could enjoy the photos and leave their baggage at the door.

No ulterior motive - I just thought the community here would enjoy the photos.

All said and done. Let's move on. Thinking what's best for this forum, I am going to close this thread. It really serves no purpose.

On that note .... I appreciate all my members and will promise to do my best to keep things moving in a positive direction.

Thanks everyone ! Remember, this forum belongs to the members. Without you, it is just a empty house.
