A new brand? Are you kidding me? This is the brand that invented the TOURBILLON!
Just to correct it.

The Breguet name goes back forever, but Swatch bought what was a moribund brand and revived it. I don't believe there is any real connection to Breguet of 200 years ago. They make mostly dress watches, and I'd sure like to have one.

I wouldn't beleive that in a second. Just because they were bought by Swatch, or any other company, doesn't mean anything was wrong witht the company or brand. In fact, its the opposite. These luxury goods companies like LVMH and Richemont are just holding companies. Swatch has been shopping luxury designer brands for the last couple years hoping to diversify as well and join that club.

They are one of the oldest in the industry!!! (Since 1775) known for making one of the finest watches that exist today!!! inventor of one of the most complicated complications horology has ever known - the Tourbillon!! ever heard of it?????!! currently Breguet is the 2nd best watchmaker the industry has ever known and most probably ever will! it was a brilliant decision buying the watch! and as a watch connoisseur...i would suggest take good care of it...a Breguet is only bought to be handed down generations!!!!!

Don't worry Tower, I think most of us picked up on the sarcasm - I thought it was a funny response...

I was surprised to see the backlash - but then again, I had to remember that most people outside of this little subculture would have no idea what the hell a Breguet is...

So we are much more accustomed to hearing answers like yours, but without the sarcastic inflection ( which you cant create on a written forum )

- and that whole 'J/K' emotcom completely kills any humor in sarcasm...

they were bought out not so long ago...
i forget who and don't want to guess.

That takes away some of the appeal (to me) with regard to the newer watches.

thats a great looking watch you have.

My second watch was a Breguet.. I spent all my saved money on a 5907.. Man it was a lovely watch but it didnt fit me perfectly as I was only 19. So I traded it away for an IWC SS Aquatimer. If I am going to get another Breguet it would be a Marine big Date:)

Beautiful watch - wear it and enjoy it.

Breguet is one of the oldest watchmakers. Here is a quote from Wikipedia:

"Breguet is a manufacturer of luxury watches, founded by Abraham-Louis Breguet in Paris in 1775. Currently part of The Swatch Group, its timepieces are now (since 1976) produced in the Vallée de Joux in Switzerland. Breguet is one of the oldest surviving watch-making establishments and is the pioneer of numerous watch-making technologies, the most notable being the tourbillon, invented by Abraham-Louis Breguet. Breguet has recently introduced a line of writing instruments as a tribute to writers who mention or feature Breguet watches in their works. Breguet watches are often easily recognized for their coin-edge cases, guilloché dials and blue pomme hands (often now referred to as 'Breguet hands')."

I love my Rose Gold Breguet Transatlantique XX

Its a beautiful watch and an amazing brand
my only complaint is a regulateur with a seconds
hand kinda kills the historical point behind a regulateur.

If it had a second hand Id really be debating one!
I think I am going to get an IWC Port Regulateur soon.

Great brand. Classic, timeless styles that will never go out of fashion. I have a Type XX Transatlantique in titanium that I got when I graduated college. It's one of their "sportier" designs but is still very versatile.

They use Lemania movements, though Lemania was bought by Swatch and was later renamed under the Breguet banner so I'm not sure if that qualifies in making the movements "in-house?"

that is a very good point about Richmond and LVMH and Swatch the big Players in the watch industry. They are holding companies and beleive it or not there watches actually compete with one another for example.
Alange and Sohm is a direct competetor to Vacheron Constatin even though they are in the same holding company. Also Panaeri and an Iwc are competetors in the the same company as A lange and VC. Breguet competes with Blancpain and Blancpain Competes with Glashutte original and there all in the same comapny with is Swatch Grouo. Zenith Competes some what with Hublot in there know Discontinued Defy Models and in there new Stratos models.

While I am genrally not a fan of large groups taking over Historical Boutiques style Brands I beleive That the Big Three LvMH Swatch and Richmont have done a good job.

To me, it can be the same as Potiac and Oldsmobile competing with Buick.
