Matte Dials

OK
I am sorry, I am sure this is a stupid ? BUT
when did dials go gloss?

I gotta admit I love the look of the matte dials.

I have a beautiful 5513 matte I wont part with as I love the look.
Its not super old or valuable but I wear it a lot while I ended up selling my chocolate M First Red Sub as I never wore it...

1) Obviously white Exp II never had a white matte correct? Was there a matte dial of the current black Exp II?

2) Was there ever a GMT with ratcheting bezel, independent setting 24 hr hand and a matte dial? If so which would I be looking for?

Any clue why Rolex ever went gloss??

Whoa. What? It almost looks like you said you had a chocolate sub that you never wore???

Oh yea. I think they changed around 1980. That is when the transitional models start showing up.

Yes, I had what turned out to be quite a rare pristine
example of a M first Chocolate Red Sub.

It was unique and beautiful but I rarely wore it and decided
it would be better off in a proper collection.

I had just posted pics of it on the vintage forum and was SWAMPED
with inquiries so I broke down and after a lot of hard debate I let it go
to someone who will properly appreciate it and I can get others Id enjoy
owning more...
