Strongly Considering a New SS Sub - any words of wisdom?

Hey Guys -

Today is actually a said day for me...on my last visit to this forum I was the owner of a beautiful datejust - of which i was selling to purchase a sub. Sold the datejust, but never did pull the trigger on the sub....so i have been wearing a swiss army ever since (i know). I guess it worked out well in a way because I am definitely in favor of every update made to the SS Sub. The only problem I am having is the hefty 8,000 sticker at my AD plus 6.25% sales tax. I have gone to multiple AD's and have tried multiple forms of negotiating, I can not even find an AD to credit me enough on the watch to eat up the sales tax. I agree in the grand scheme of things...that there is no difference between 8,000 and 8500...but that is not whats keeping me from buying....

I would love to know if people in this forum actually feel the watch is worth the price in general...any thoughts either way would be greatly appreciated...

thank you!

buy a gray-market 16610 non-ceramic sub. it's the "classic sub-date" and it can be had for under $6k.

Yes, the Sub-C is worth the price BUT I would skip the AD & buy from one of the TRF power-sellers. DAVIDSW was excellent to deal with for what it's worth.

Great model Rolex. Either buy from one of the trusted sellers here on TRF in the for sale section or source from an AD if you want the watch in your name.

PM sent with recommendation on how to source from an AD.

It's a great watch and one that will only increase in value. When the price is right go for it. Lot of reputable sellers here on TRF.

My SubC has been a daily wearer since November 09, 2010... I wouldn't want to wear anything else.

appreciate that input - but I am 100% sold on the new model / updates. Just not sold on the market price...I guess to better phrase my question....does any feel as though the 8,000 price is here for good...or is more of a supply and demand issue? I for one certainly have no problem waiting a year to get the same watch from my AD for say 7,000 - but something tells me that I would only be dreaming...

I seriously doubt AD's will be selling SUBC @ $7000.00 range after price in the future. Prices here in Canada for new models in Stainless Steel are pushing $10,000.00 so a SUBC from an Authorized Dealer at $7000.00 just seems like a distant dream...

Tony, could you point me in the direction of a good trusted seller here on TRF

Tony IS a great seller right here on TRF and I would be willing to bet he can source you a BNIB Sub C for more than 10% off and no tax or something in that area A great looking watch IMO, looking forward to seeing your pics

This approach seems to have worked quite well for the brand for several decades. I imagine time will tell... figuratively speaking (of course).

As others here have said, the Sub C is a fantastic watch. I've had mine since July 2010 (when it still had the initial $7250 sticker - which was still a hefty price for a stainless watch...but IMO worth it.) and it was my daily wearer from then until a month ago. It developed a power reserve issue and is actually in the mail from Rolex Service Center in Dallas on its way back to me. I haven't heard of anyone else with a problem so I think my issue was a fluke (remember the Sub-C has the same 3135 movement that MANY other Rolex watches share so it wouldn't be specific to the model itself). I still have every bit as much love for the watch as the day I got it and am eagerly awaiting its arrival (hopefully tomorrow...fingers crossed). Anyway, I would not hesitate to recommend one to you. I agree it is very hard to swallow an 8K price tag but as others have mentioned, maybe shop around with some of the TRF trusted sellers for a better price.

Sub C is an awesome watch. Please consider buying BNIB or LNIB from one of the fine trusted TRF sellers.

Buy a lightly used, pre-loved Sub from TRF. Save yourself the money.

Just got mine today and I'm very impressed so far.
Go on a vacation to Canada and pick one up,the AD's here seem to want to discount more, 20-25% discount is the norm.
I'm not sure if you can get a rebate on the HST or not.

BUY IT !!!

It's by far a HUGE improvement on the 16610 IMHO.

Had mine since Aug 2010 and is my daily wearer.
