I'm being offered this E series (1991) ladies datejust and I'm considering buying it for someone.

The watch does not come with papers but the seller claims that it is virtually new.

Do help me authenticate this watch from the pictures. I am also surprised that the watch has virturally no bracelet stretch.

Finally, what would an appropriate price be?

My wife has the same watch with a blue dial, and also an E-series. The watch in the photos looks authentic, with the appropriate markings and dial, and in good condition. I would suggest bringing any pre-owned watch to a trusted watch-maker for authentication. I have seen this model sell from $2000-$2800 from individual sellers, and more from jewelers, depending on condition, last service, and whether or not it included box, papers, etc..

The buyer is asking for $3000. However, on TRF it doesn't seem to go for more than $2000.

There are many factors which will influence the asking price as well as the final sale price. Condition, service history, originality, dial color and type, box & papers all affect the price. Fortunately these watches are plentiful in the market, and can be found easily here and elsewhere. The champagne stick dial seems to be the most common, with blue, black, and white stick dials less common. I have also seen some dials with Romans as well. The watch in the photos appears to to have been worn very little judging by the condition of the case-back sticker, and the lack of stretch in the jubilee bracelet. Is this watch being sold face to face? If so and you like the watch, make the seller a reasonable offer, and maybe you will get the watch for the right price. If the watch is being sold via the internet, then there are other concerns that need to be addressed.

Looks very good to me but if no service history it would be prudent to budget for a service, then you will get Rolex service papers with a current 2 year warranty.

Looks like a super watch - good find.
I would try and negotiate the price down to accommodate a full RSC service

The labour charge for a full service is $60 from the Rolex trained tech. It's also keeping good time so I don't think that'll be much of an issue.

Considering resale value and future desirability how much should I pay for the watch?

Seems OK. Clasp code P12 dates it december 1991, so date seems correct. $3K seems a bit high, though.
