Hiya all!

I have noticed that my cyclops is scratched at 3 places, guessing its the AR coating

Is it possible to do anything about it?

I'm guessing you will need to send it in for service and have them fix it, whichever way they do it.

Do you have any PICs? I thought the AR Coating was only on the inside of a Rolex Crystal?

correct the AR coating is under and above the saphire, below the cyclops, if that makes sence

i have read numerous post on the scratching of cyclops, they arnt made of saphire crystal from what i understand so they are not scratch resistant.
sorry about your watch, please post pics of how bad it is.

some people have said you can use 'pollywatch' or diamond paste to buff them out, hope that helps

Makes sense I can follow what your saying. Wasn't aware that the cyclops wasn't saphire though, but this might explain the crystal scratching. Any further info on this would be appreciated.

Based on reading another thread on this topic, it appears the cyclops itself is indeed sapphire. This confirmation came from Rik, and I think he of most people would know.

Correct......
The AR coating is on the crystal, but under the cyclops and not on the cyclops itself....(Not sure about the underside of the crystal however.).

Consider cutting it off. You don't really need it anyway.

AR is under the cyclops, so it cannot be scratched from the surface.

Cyclops may or may not be sapphire - I've heard both.

We need definitive answers regarding the composition of the cyclops...

$100 for a replacement crystal isn't too bad. Nice if you could get a local watchmaker to replace. He could get it done inside of 30 minutes including pressure test time.

Mine has a small scratch also. From the info i have... it seams it is not sapphire and the AR is between cyclop and crystal. I would appreciate a 100% correct answer to this. What is it made from?

I woldn't change the crystal each time the cyclop gets a scratch. If it is NOT sapphire it might get scratched every day. So.... change it??? :)))

I had the same problem at my sub 2 weeks ago... and i managed to remove it by myself in 2 min. check this video (also there are plenty of them on youtube) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SzhYmhawDCg
You can remove it for a change for a while and see hoe it looks!

Thanx for answers, i tried to take som pictures but my camera is to old

But I found this at google, it says "do not scratch the coating" but this is GMT-C. Maybe its the same on my watch?

Great spec sheet you found.....

It does show however, the AR coating above and below the crystal, but under the cyclops!!

Is it an actual scratch on the top of the cyclops or is it a defect sandwiched between the flat crystal AR underside and the Cyclops glued on top of it? To confirm: when you feel the top part of the cyclops--can you actually feel the scratch with your finger?
