SS Daytona Black Face -- First time Rolex owner
I just received the SS Daytona that I bought in Santa Fe over the weekend. I bought it at Packard's right in "downtown Santa Fe." It's funny, because I was just having after-dinner cocktails with a huge watch geek, and asked him his opinion of SS vs WG for a Daytona. He said, without hesitation, a SS. We shot the crap a bit, and he offered to do rudimentary due diligence if I emailed him a second hand offer on the web. He'd look at it, look at the circumstances, the reputation of the seller, etc.
Next day, I see him at a different party (related to the same event), and he said that Packards, right downtown, has a SS in black dial right in the window. He thought that was pretty rare, and speaking to the folks at the shop, it turns out it is pretty unusual. I threw down my credit card, had it shipped to San Fran, and here I am, finally wearing it. I was really torn by the dial on the WG Meteorite. I mean, that is one sexy dial. But for my style of wearing watches, much like my style with women, I'm probably a single watch man. Who knows, I may catch a bug and start collecting (watches, not women). The SS is a better choice for me, because I tend to wear the same watch whether I'm wearing a tux, a suit, jeans (90% of the time), or even taking a shower. I thought the black dial was a bit more elegant -- it doesn't "pop" as much as the white dial, but the contrast between the silver SS and the black dial is pretty nice. Past watches, aside from throwaways, were a Tag 6000 TT SEL, a Movado, and most recently, an iPhone. The timing of getting this watch was just perfect. Anyway, thanks for the info, and writing. I continue to read, even if I'm just a single-watch man (for now). |

Congrats fellow NorCal resident and Daytona owner. If the AD I went to last weekend had the black dial Daytona instead of the white dial I would've still bought it. Both look equally great IMO.
