Cyclops: Love it or Hate it?

I stopped by my local AD to try on Rolex's. Before today I had only worn my DateJust.

It was a lot of fun.

One thing I noticed was that Rolex doesn't offer more than 1 option for a date without Cyclops. Why is that?

If you have decent vision, do you need the cyclops? Do you like it?

I have perfect vision, and I hate that bubble.

Thoughts?

It's part of the Rolex brand and I personally love it. Certainly helps as I get older to see the date

Don't like it. I have had it removed on 2 of my Rolex watches thus far, and probably more in the future.

I have Rolex models with and with out the cyclops. I do need the cyclops to read the date. I do like the dateless models maybe more so as I don't have to have a date function.

I like it now, but before I got really interested in Rolexes it was a deal breaker for me.

I never cared for it. I would like to remove it from my sub, but can't bring myself to do it.

I like it. It is part of what make a Rolex a Rolex. And, I don't need to put on my reading glasses to read the date.

I have one Rolex without the Cyclops (Daytona), but all the rest with. No problem here, I like the Cyclops. It just belongs there and it works for me.

It's growing on me, seems to triple the glare when I'm trying to read the date, I have to rock the watch back and forth to find a non-glare spot.

So, to me it's an idiosyncratic feature that I grudgingly tolerate. I'd have preferred not to have it, but I'm not ready to get out the chisel, solvent or torch yet.

WOW!

Based upon that reasoning, I have another Rolex in my collection:

I'm not a "bubble" fan and removed it from my EXPII:

and will soon be removing it from my GMT Master II.

My 16600 SD of course did not come with the "abomination" which is one reason I have always considered it to be THE Rolex diver:

Mitch, the Cyclops no more makes a watch a Rolex than a dancing horse makes a car a Ferrari. Take the horse off the car and it is still a Ferrari. Same with the watch.

Like it or not, it's one of the things that makes it a Rolex. I'm just happy that it was never added to the SD.

I LOVE it!! It's part of the watch. I am a "factory" guy, and I feel that if it comes like that from the Rolex factory, that's the way it belongs. It's part of what makes it a Rolex IMO.

I don't mind it. It is a Rolex tradition, though.

Frankly, it does me no good whatsoever.

I can't read the date unless I have my glasses on anyway.

Heck, I can barely read the time without my glasses.

I prefer a non-cyclops crystal myself. I understand it is iconic and so much of the Rolex attraction, but I really like the ones with a date and no cyclops, e.g. Sea Dweller.

I suppose the cyclops equates to Rolex in a way. I used to like it a lot but lately not as much.

I don't like how the watch face must be at an exact angle to read the date. I have lots of other watches with dates, and I can read the number perfectly at most angles without glare.

It seems like a simple option for Rolex to offer versions of every watch with or without the cyclops. I wonder why they don't? Just tradition? If that was so, then the SD would have it.

Off with its head I say ~ !

Ya shee, even here with the red seconds hand obstructing the apperture, we can clearly see its a "23" and not the unlucky, "13" ~ !
