"Sun Beam" dial

Have you guys ever seen a TT Datejust with a "sun beam" dial? It is breathtaking and IMO, it is even better looking than the tapestry dial.

If you own one, can you show us the picture(s)?

Yes, I've seen one in the "flesh", Tommy. As far as beauty goes, it's a superb looking dial....but time readability at certain angles and in poor light is a real bugger!!

Yes, I certainly agree

Nothing is better than a plain old dial for reading time purposes. "Sun beam" dial can be blinding too in the sun if it is in the champaign color . However, that was the very first time I saw one and I was impressed. Do you know if Rolex makes one in black color?

I'm pretty sure they do.

The other day at my AD's, I saw a DJ with a silver concentric ring dial. It was virtually impossible to read the bloody time!!

May be it was my imagination, but I thought a salesperson at a Rolex AD once told me a few years back that the ADs have NO saying as to what model Rolexes they will receive (from Rolex). They'd just have sell whatever they received from Rolex. Is this still stand true?

Not sure about that, Tommy. But I'm pretty sure that an AD can order in stock of the faster selling models.

When was that? Cos I really want to see those pictures.

I tried eBay for a Rolex with a "sun beam" dial but none listed. I have never seen one before today and none for sale on eBay, those babies must be pretty scarce.

Ok, here we go.

Can you mod a Rolex?

I will say yes.

So I start with this one.

What can I do with it?

Maybe a new dial?

Sunbeam it is name.

Mmm, that dial will match the bezel.

Then I add Yachtmaster set of hands, fat minute & red secondhand.

How will it looks? Not bad in my opinion.

So a red datewheel will get the final touch.

Good or bad?

I love it

Wow Jocke, thanks for re-posting those pictures. That sure is a nice looking watch. If it were a TT with gold markers and a "Thunderbird" bezel, I think I would go to sell my blood in order to buy one!!
