Comtemplating Pam 000, yay or nay
Okay ive recently acquired my gmt2c about 3 months ago and this forum is making me look at watches everyday, thnks trf really helpful...
Walked into the shop today looking at heritage 46, and next thing you know I'm walking out the door thinking about panerai, now I'm contemplating a pan for my next watch, especially the zero it's so clean though I am also tossing it up with the 111 what do you guys think, and what is the differences between them, forgive my lack of knowledge on pan, all I know is rolex Thxs

the zero has quite a following among the PAM faithful, as does the 111. you can't go wrong with either.
both are manual winds, SS, and fully polished, so, the differences, in brief, of today's versions.... zero: sausage dial (i.e., painted), logo, no second hands, solid back. 111: sandwich dial (i.e., numerals "cut out" with lume disc underneath), no logo, sub-seconds, exhibition back. to me, a key decision is whether you need to see something moving on the dial or not. sandwich/sausage and logo/no logo is more of a subtle decision. exhibition back is nice, but, it's against your wrist when you wear it (you can't see it), and, owning a solid back PAM, i like the feel of the SS against the skin and the "solid" look. then there's the 112, which, if you don't like the logo of the 000, is even "cleaner", and it has a sandwich dial and exhibition back. from what i can tell, though, the zero gets more love, for some reason. there are other base models, of course, some made of titanium (176, 177), but, the 000 and 111 seem to get the most attention. |

If you are planing to buy more than one PAM, then it is, either, Zero (luminor case) or 210 (radiomir case).
If you don't have plans for other Pam's, look 312 |

if it's gonna be your only pam.. get the 112,
if it's a first of many pams to come(slippery slope here), get the 000, you're gonna get it sooner or later. cheers!! :D |

well....since we're expanding the search.
my quest for a compromise between the full polished SS and titanium lead me to the brushed SS/polished bezel of the 312. i was convinced the 312 had everything for a first-time PAM owner. but, when i came to accept that the 1950 case didn't sit right on me, i turned to the base model luminors, since i thought i didn't think i needed the date and i wanted manual for something different. however, i then realized that i needed a second hand, as not seeing anything move on the dial would have bothered me. so, i thought, 111 it is! easy! but, then, i started second-guessing my choice. i became convinced that the sub dial makes the 111 dial look a little unbalanced (to my eyes). and, then, i thought, i didn't really want full polished SS....and, then, i remembered i really wanted the quick change system of the 312, as i'm a clod when it comes to screwdrivers.... so, i then found MY perfect model....the 164. brushed case/polished bezel + date to balance the face + seconds hand + quick change system + date (i was kidding myself, i NEED a date...check it at least once a day). i've also come to appreciate the numbers on the dial, as i get the time faster on the 164 than my explorer II. anyway, just thought i'd chime in with how i came to join the PAM world about 3 months ago. it's not a paneristi dot com favorite by any means, but, it's perfect for me. |

Not to complicate the selection any more but the 005 is a good alt to 111 as well.

I would suggest comparing Painted dials to Sandwhich dials and see which you prefer first.
Then, the only other questions are -second or no second -Ti or SS -Sapphire back or solid back. There are all dial combinations of these, but for some you'd have to buy preowned. For example if you want a painted, solid back, no logo with second hand, that is a PAM 001 (no longer made, but can be had).

I started thinking base, then moved my thoughts to the 111, then moved up to the 312 which is what I ended up buying. What I like about the 312: small seconds, date, sandwich dial, 1950 case (love this), in house P9000 movement, exhibition case, automatic, and brushed finish on case with the polished bezel. No regrets here. Good luck with your search.

Go with the zero. The painted dial and steel case back has strong historical roots plus, the simplicity makes it a very long lasting pam you will like for a LONG time.. timeless classic. You will enjoy its robustness, endless strap combinations... its a great step away from the Rolex that we love.. you will like it! For what its worth, I started with a 111G.. still painted dial vs. sandwich dial of the current models.. and beefier crown guard.. either 111 or 0, you come out a winner. Best, Fred |

I'd go, and have just gone for a PAM 000. Fir me the painted dials look amazing, I did have an E serial 112 a couple of years ago which was painted but that got px'd for something as is often the case. The solid metal caseback of the 000 is another plus point for me. if it's a sandwich dial you are going for then I advise the Radiomir route.
My 3 watch collection is now Rolex DSSD 116660 Panerai 411 Firenze Boutique Edition Panerai 000 Base Logo For me that is perfect. a SS Rolex with the presence of a PAM. A special edition Panerai and the simplicity of a painted dial base logo. Well I am happy for the minute.

0's for me..I am a painted dial + SS backcase convert...Used to love the Sandwich + glass back but since having the 001 (painted + SS back) I have not looked back since and been thinking about a 0 too. The SS back does give me a more historic feel to the whole Pam DNA IMO.
I am guessing this will likely not be the last pam u are getting so have fun with your first! |

I just pulled the trigger on a PAM112, so that have to be my suggestion to you :-) pretty much the same a o 'Logo' (PAM000) but with some (for me) advantages as:
The cleanest dial you will find Clear case back (always nice) It has a huge military look to it IMHO! /masterkiller
