PAM 351 Issues
My 351 keeps stopping in the middle of the night. After a full 20-30 winds and 10hrs/day of usage, it would not make it through the 4th night. Any suggestions or should I just bring it in for service? Thanks.

I'm confused. It would not make it through the 4th night? Does the watch work and you are just concerned the power reserve isn't as it should be?

Let me clarify. Even though I'm wearing the watch about 10hrs a day it still winds down in about 4 days.

Well, it is hard for anyone to say definitively as auto winding varies by activity.
Couple of observations you might try. 1. 20-30 winds on a Luminor is not enough to wind it fully. It is hard to wind Luminor's really quickly b/c the crown guard prevents you from winding more with one turn. Even that said, I wind my Radiomir about 36 times to get it full, but that is a different movement and everyone winds differently. 2. Once the watch is fully dead, hold it face up and start to stir it in a small circle like you are stirring a pot of soup. This should rotate the rotor on the watch and your second hand should start moving. This will prove that the autowind rotor is working as it should. 3. If you have a watch winder, find out the setting for your watch and test it out. Just a guess here, but I'm guessing the rotor may not be smoothly moving or you are not moving enough to fully wind it. My reason is b/c 20-30 turns on a Luminor crown isn't enought for a full wind, but the watch is still making it 4 days on a 72 hour movement.

hi, i would have it serviced. i owned the 104 and 162 both would stop running while in the watch winder. so i had both serviced while still under warrantee. but still while on the winder it would run slow or just stop. fed up i sold them both. you should wind them about 40 time's.

Less than 1 year old. I bought it from another forum member and the warranty card is left blank so I am also concerned about having it covered under warranty.

Wow, that is concerning that it's so new with problems. Have seen several threads about issues, makes me wonder about the quality. Sorry to hear about it, and yes I would get fixed under warranty.

Like Mik, I don't understand what you mean by winds down on 4th day. An automatic watch that is worn everyday should not need to be wound. If this is the case, then this needs to be serviced. However, if you mean that you wear the watch and let it run down after four days of being off the wrist, then I don't see the problem as the power reserve isn't meant to last even that long. Good luck resolving the issue.
PS - There are 1500 M series 351s and I am the proud owner of one of them. Are there likely to be problems with some? Sure -- It's a mechanical device. Is it a widespread issue? Not that I have heard since taking ownership Summer 2010. |

I doubt it needs the service. I think the P.9000 needs far more winding than that. I have a 359 and the weight seems to need a lot of movement in order to rotate. Perhaps the OP doesn't have a very active arm?

My thought as well. Hence why I recommended the tests I did.

Thank you mfer. I tested the rotor like you said and it seems to be in working order. I wore the watch from a complete power down for 10hrs and it continued to tick for 8 hours after taken off the wrist. So it is possible I'm not active enough to sustain the power reserve. I will fully wind the watch at least 40 times as suggested and try to be more active at the office. I have a GMT-II and a GMT II-c and this has never been an issue. Thanks again!

You need alot more movements to keep the watch rolling. I suspect a 72 hours reserve is not full even after 30 winds. 4 days is more than enough I reckon.

definately take it for service. i have a pam359, 2 months old, and is gaining 40 secs a day. dropped it off for warranty service not less than an hour ago.
thats what warranty is for, when in doubt, if its under warranty then drop it off there for a once over |

Fortunately it's keeping perfect timing so I've decided not to send it to service yet.

Usually I wear something for a few days then wear something else, so every time I wear it again I wind it up, even if it is still running.

I always put my Pam 351 on the winder with 750 TPD when I am not wearing. only at 2 occasions it stop. 1st time I kept the watch inside my safe as depart for a long business trip and the other time, a schedule maintenance on domestic power supply that trip my winder. Both stoppages recorded an approximate 75 hours power reserve.
I sent my Pam 351 to service centre for regulating as it was 14 seconds faster each day when just purchased and currently is 5 sec faster each day. |

In other words, the difference you're pointing out is invisible to them culturally. They brush it off. If you're certain your watch is broken then send it in. If not, I would personally advise against it. Sent from my Nexus S 4G using Tapatalk |
