Hunting and Adding Vintage Accessories

Hi All -
I recently acquired a 1967 1.7m meters first 5513. It came with original papers.
I am considering acquiring boxes and other period correct accessories - but OUCH circa 1967 accessories are expensive.

I know we have debated accessories and the price premium for having papers or a full set -

Whats your opinion on hunting for and adding accessories to your vintage watches?

BTW - if you live in Texas or near - PM me for details on the Dallas GTG on July 23. We have Bob Ridley doing a show and tell and - other cool activities!

I had to get a box for my 5512 which didnt come with anything. The process was fun for sure. Do it if it's fun for you IMHO.

I'm not sure what value the accessories add to a watch when the accessories are not original to the watch, but I've collected various accessories for my red sub just for the fun of it. Collecting them is almost like a hobby in itself and the accessories are interesting nostalgia pieces. The "cigarette" card is a good example of this. Could you imagine Rolex including a card with their watches today that recommends using the watch box for storing cigarettes? Things sure were different back then!

I do not have any hard data to back this up but I think that a "complete set" can add a minimum of 10% to the value of a watch. If the watchi sextreemly collectable and the older it is the more that premium may be.

Be advised, that buying the correct boxes, hang tags, books etc.. may cost you that 10%

I personally like to get as much of the original "complete set" as possible just becuse of my "collectors OCD".
