What do Rolex original bracelet and case finish look like from the 60's 70's 80's etc
Having collected for a long time I have noticed that the original finishes of the case and bracelets from the early 60's through the 80's changed. Not sure when the change happened? I have had dozens of never polished watches and the finish on those looks night and day from the newer style or ones back from a service. Does anybody know the time line when Rolex changed and went to other finishes ?
Here is a bracelet with original finish from the 70's. Its to me a thick spaced satin finish not like the newer stlye. IMHO 1 way to tell if your case or bracelet has ever been polished is to look closely at the finish. Anybody care to post pics of never polished case or bracelets to see when the change happened ?

I was told that my '67 matte dial, meters first, 1.7xxxxx 5512 was never polished. Here's a photo of the lugs.
Its at Bob Ridley's currently for a movement service because service history is totally unknown. I can't get the image up. UGH. Whats wrong with me? http://s32.photobucket.com/albums/d1...1.jpg&newest=1 |
