Can I peel off this sticker?

Can I peel off the sticker at the back of my Rolex OP Date? And anyone knows why it is not a hologram sticker but a plain green?

Thanks.

It is not a hologram because it is an earlier version of the sticker.

Peel away! I have never kept a sticker on any of my Rolex.

I would say leave it. The hologram has faded over time. The recent modern pieces don't have the holograms. Unless if it irritates your skin leave it.

If you peel it off the surface of the sticker might crack a bit, i.e. may not be in the same condition once taken off. At least some of the Rolex stickers are like that (to prevent them from being re-used I guess).

By the look of the back of that watch its already encrusted by all sorts of bacteria eating away at the case back. Its been on there since the 1980s and its needless and pointless, and just bit of paper sticker remove it.Then give the watch a good wash in plain old soap and water to get rid of all the 20 plus years sweat and gunge.

Thanks everyone for the fast replies! I just peeled it off and it looks great without the disgusting sticker with the sweat and dirt stuck there.

But how do u know this watch is 20 over years old? I got this from my father so I don't know how old this watch is. May I know if there is any way to find out the age of the watch?

Quite simple the ref 15210 came out around 1988 with the introduction of the cal 3135 movement plus the old type sticker. And if you remove the bracelet the serial and model number will be between the lugs, the serial will give a approx year when case was stamped.

Wow. I didn't know there was a way to find out the year of the watch based on the ref number. I always didn't dare to take out the bracelet. Thanks for the information! To think the watch is older than me haha!

So if this watch is 20 plus years old, does it mean this is a vintage watch?

I would call a Rolex with acrylic crystal a vintage. Most people don't think that a sapphire crystral is vintage

Hold it to your forehead.

If warm acrylic, cold sapphire.

OK, show of hands: how many of you read that, and immediately went over to your dresser and tried it?

It feels kinda cold because I just washed it. Or maybe it is really sapphire.

I tried it. I'm positive it's sapphire. It still feels cold.

You could check the surface of the crystal too. Sapphire is usually flat (at least on Rolexes) and acrylic usually (always?) slightly spheric/domed.

Leaving a sticker on a watch is like your mom leaving the plastic wrap on the lampshades.
